Day 2, up early, saddled up, loaded dogs and horses and off to the hunting grounds!! This is Smoke. Ask me about him later, this dog is a hoot!!! I'm the one in the green shirt. Some pretty tough terrain jumping ditches, creeks and up and over levees End of day one it was hogs 2, hunters 0.

Day 3 we were up early again. Headed out to try to redeem ourselves from day 2. Got to see my good buddy Ashley, hunted with him last year and he is one hell of a great guy. From left to right: Eric (AKA Ears as he can hear the dogs and hogs fighting from 500 yards), O'Henry, the guy I went down with. He is my wife's farrier. Me then Ashley. My horse Wolf Hog Wallow SUCCESS!!! Dogs got on a hog in the cane. we waded in, grabbed the hog and O'Henry went in with his knife for the kill. So we continue hunting and get in on another hog. That makes two and our total for our final day. Some of the best guys one could ever want to hunt with. Looking forward to going down again next year. The guy in the center is David Grant, AKA 'The Pee Dee Cowboy'. He is the one that invited me down to hunt. More on him later. Final day ride. Notice our max speed!!

OK, Small details. David Grant is the creator of the TV series Horse Tales. You can find it on Youtube and it airs on Sunday mornings on a local South Carolina TV station. Fantastic host and great friend. He is trying to spread the word about the breed of horse he uses as they are a small sturdy horse well suited to the swamps of SC. They are called Marsh Tacky's and have a lot of Spanish influence in them. He was intrigued with my two horses as they also have quite a bit of Spanish in them. They are Nokota horses from the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. Another great friend is Leigh. He opened up his home to us Yankees and allowed us to stay with him. Also said we are welcome anytime to stay with him.
Everyone carried handguns, all were Rugers but one. All were Single Actions.
Hogs were killed with a knife as it is too dangerous to shoot with all of the dogs on the hog.

It's nice to see that the good guys still wear white hats ! Well, white to lighter anyway, with camo now allowed. Also, you can tell how baaaad the dog is by the thickness of the chain, yikes ! Note to self, keep pocket full of dog treats. Neat hunt, thanks for sharing.

Texted link to this thread to my sisters. One lives near hunt site, the other in No.Va and a serious lifelong horse person. She texted back..can't talk now, hounds just crossed rt50, these are FAST hounds ! In hot pursuit of a fox. Hey Whitworth, open your window..hear hounds ? Texted back..Hey ! No texting and riding ! LOL.

Oh yes, The Smoke stories. That dog is absolutely ferocious on a hog. I would not want to get between him and a hog. The minute the hog is dispatched, Smoke just heads over to you with a HUGE smiling face and wagging tail just wanting to be loved up. He stays with the horses until a hog is bayed. His head is huge, Shoulders larger yet and his hips are tiny. He is an uncut male and the way he does his little dog trot, his tallywacker swings from side to side and slaps each leg as he is moving along. Being low, his 'boys' drag in the mud and become the same color as the South Carolina dirt, a light tan color, in contrast with his normal coat color. Funniest dog I have ever met. Gentle and kind would make an awesome couch dog.....but fearless on a hog.
