Military contract going to Sig with some variant of the P320. Has anybody fired one?
One fella told me the DAO, striker-fired pistol has a short pull, better than Glock, with a shorter reset as well.
Anyone?

Anyone? I haven't fired one but have dry fired them in my friends gun shop. To me the trigger beats all other striker fired pistols I have shot which includes Glock, Walther PPQ M2, Smith Shield and H&K VP9. It is still a striker fired pistol though meaning it has that long take up but once you get there it is crisp and very little over travel. The reset is shorter than any pistol I mentioned with an audible and very tactile feel. It feels very good in the hand and has a standard barrel vs polygonal. Comes standard with night sights which give a very good sight picture. It is also modular like the P250. You can get 3 frames, compact, medium and full size with one upper. Can't speak to durability or reliability but given it's a Sig I would imagine it's both. If I were in the market for another striker fired pistol the P320 would get the nod.

Spending 25 of my 37 years with the feds in DoD acquisition I can say that selecting the best gun is most likely well beyond their capabilities. I do wish the best for the guys mired up knee deep in the process and understand that there is some hope since even a blind hog finds an acorn every once in a while..

For what it's worth when my son was hanging out in Baghdad last year with his army buddies he said lots of spec ops guys were carrying Glock 19's.

Ed Head at Gunsite wrote an article about the P320 sometime ago. He seems to think they are a solid choice for the Striker Fired Tribe.

Yeah I've kinda shot one. . P320C 9mm Same size as G19. Feels great in the hands and although I like/don't mind finger grooves this actually felt better. The trigger is heavier than Glock but since there's so little takeup and a wall-breaking point it feels much lighter. Honestly I really like the trigger but I didn't at the same time, I think I just wasn't used to it and it felt unpredictable despite what I said above. Very low perceived recoil, lighter than my G19. Super good shooter, I could literally pick my shot and hit it almost every single time. Most accurate semi out of the box I have ever fired next to a Beretta 92, no kidding! There are fifty shots in the target below as fast as I could get the muzzle back on target which was fast! Soooooo, why did I trade it for another Glock (19)? The trigger was fantastic but I just didn't like it. The biggest issue which I have only heard a few other times on the net was, it kept throwing empties into my forehead---HARD! The case edge even cut me a tiny bit on one of them. This would happen at least 4+ times a magazine and after several range trips I was flinching to dodge cases. I had a guy at the gun store fire five rounds and it didn't happen to him once, but it was only five rounds. I also know about a half dozen others on another forum I frequent that havecthe same gun and love it and haven't had the issue. I could have probably gotten used to the trigger. Still I wouldn't discourage anyone from getting one if they like how it feels or the trigger which you can feel at the gun store, it's a Sig to be sure and at a reasonable price for what you get! PS: there are several dozen frame slide caliber combinations. There are four frame sizes and each frame size has a small medium and large grip circumference, three calibers I think 9-.40-.357 sig. All can use the same serialized trigger meaning if you want you can just buy new frames-barrels-slides-magazines to suit whatever setup you require. There is a .45 version of the P320 but it has its own frame. The P250is almost the same gun in .45

I really like the Gen4 G19 I picked up last year. Nice pistola. I was just wondering if I should take a hard look at this one. Prolly not.... more money for a 5 shot 480 midframe....

SIG P320?

Here look at this. These are the 9-.40-.357 Sig options. Each of those barrels are available in all three calibers. Each of those thre frames to the right are available in small-medium-large grip circumferences. Just imagine the combinations and all can use the same serialized trigger so you don't need to buy a new gun, just parts. The grip frames are only $50. You can put a short slide on a long frame etc. These options don't even account for the P320 .45 frame or slide which is different. The Government model 320 has a manual frane safety similar to a 1911/92fs.

I don't really care for striker fired pistols, nor do I like plastic. I DO own a P320 though, and have had it since they first became available. A friend and I purchased a consecutive numbered pair. Neither of us has experienced a single malfunction and the accuracy was quite surprising. Together we regularly hit steel plates at 50 yards and beyond. I'm not real versed on trigger re-sets and all, but do kow I can accurately fire the 320 pretty fast for what that's worth.
It carries great (mine is the compact) and it has become my "go to the big city" gun. When I heard the news on the military selection I felt like they had made a good choice.

Anyone? Yes I have fired one and yes they are DAO. a short pull, and short reset. I personally liked it better than my Glock. They are accurate. And I experienced no hiccups. Brass did not hit me there were no jams. and I enjoyed the pistol.

Respectfully Paul, I did not find this to be true. They do come with night sights and they also come with High Contrast. It was to my understanding that they all had night sights and was disappointed that I could not find one readily available. 6 months waiting on them from nearly everyone I talked to, locally. Yes I know there is Gunbroker, as well as some other online sales. Anyway I have to agree with Paul that this trigger beats all other striker fired Pistol I have used or picked up. The safety or no safety. I went with a NO safety model and I like the concept much better. No question about weather a safety is on or off. Just like a DAO Revolver,,, Just pull the trigger when you want to fire. The reliability so far had been up to par. Right now I can only speak about the 9mm version. I would like to try a 45 caliber. One last thing and that is you most likely will have to get used to the trigger. I know I was thrown off a little at first. But like anything else. Pick up a rifle or pistol and practice with it and then it becomes more of a part of you and your proficiency can shine through.
