First off, I tried searching the site... Found similar discussion, but not this bullet, case etc.
What I'm trying for is a load to run a Cast Perf 300 grain LFNGC in the 1000 fps area. (From a Ruger Bisley 5 1/2")
Interested in HS6 and see a lot of talk about 12.5 to 13 gr loads like mentioned by Linebaugh. But nothing in my manuals is remotely like them... and I haven't found any info for this exact bullet in my books. I'm working with Starline brass, and have Winchester LP primers. This is my first foray into loading heavier 45 Colt and I'm wary of other sites anecdotal recipes. Am I on the right track? Any advice will be appreciated.

Start at 12 grains of HS-6 But I would not go any lower.
John's loads are good and he knows what he is doing. JMHO

Just about all I use with my Colts.... I've used these loads with the CP bullets in both weight ranges and they shot very well.

I get 1000 fps out of my 5.5" Bisley with 21.5 grains of H4227 with a 300 grain gas checked AM Bullet. Sorry, no experience with HS-6.

Work for me with a 335gr LFNGC bullet, I doubt you would see a significant velocity difference with the 300gr bullet.

The 335 LFN GC doesn’t seem to mind whether is it seated to crimp in the groove, or DEEP SEATED; accuracy is excellent @ 100 yards and holds at 200 yards. Accuracy with low extreme spreads capable of single digits from the 335 LFN GC in the 1,000-1,100 fps zone. Both HS-6 and 296/H110 handle the practical 1,000-1,100 fps range with the 335 LFN GC deep seated, which seating slightly reduces muzzle blast and power charge. At this speed HS-6 has the efficiency advantage. Recoil from a heavy bullet climbs dramatically with velocity. David Bradshaw

I loaded up a batch of 300gr coated bullets from Missouri Bullet Co. using 12 grs Blue Dot and magnum primers. Worked fine. I suspect ballistics with the 300 gr Cast Performance LFNGC will be very similar.

Update: Loaded up the 300 gr CP LFNs with 12 thru 13 gr HS6.
Wow! All loads grouped well but 13 gr was spot on! Enjoyable level of recoil... Nice solid push, but nothing snappy.

Good to hear... I grabbed a jug of HS-6 at Xmas time to try in the 45/454 SRH. I think I'm gonna start with the 335gr CP bullets in 45 brass with the 13gr charge and, see what that does for me...
Thanks BigBore44
