down here we are pretty used to rattlers, my son caught his first over 3 ft long when he was 5, not that his mother was happy about it.

Growing up in Florida, we had rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, coral snakes, cactus, stinging nettles, scorpions, black widows and more alligators than tourists. I reckon that's where I learned to pay attention to where I was stepping.

Nice kill by the way and, with me favorite caliber. Geez I didn't think the little old 44 could kill game anymore these days I'll end up with a 480 someday BUT, tis nice seeing the little 44 Mag still holding its own and Gettn'er DONE!!! Thanks Ray

Those pictures give me the woolies just thinking about all the people walking around that country with low quarter brogans and short pants on. I hope you had leggings on and just removed them for the photo shots. I've seen rattlers in that country that were longer than I am tall. I'll definitely go twice on the jgt's quote. A hunting buddy and I hog hunted south of Hondo in early spring 2005. I noticed all the guides were wearing Justin snake proof boots. So like a dumb a__ I had to ask why. Since I had asked about rattle snakes when booking the hunt with the outfitter. Was told no problem, too early for snakes. In no uncertain terms, I was told by a couple of guides. That Diamondbacks would rather bite than breathe when coming out of hibernation and didn't give two hoots about what the outfitter had to say. Didn't see any snakes but didn't see any hogs either.

Thanks Ray The oft-derided .44Mag still makes meat! I used the 355gr Beartooth WLN at about 1250fps. It did so well in my penetration tests, I was bound and determined to try it on something big. I was not disappointed in the least. I was initially going to use the short Bisley but had no idea what the range would be. So I procured the SRH and UltraDot 30, just in case I needed to make a longer shot. The more I and shoot and hunt with them, the more impressed I am with the SRH platform as a scoped hunting pistol and totally forgive it for being so ugly.

LOL!!!! So Ugly? Kool thanks for the info. The SRH's are my main scoped huntin guns now (9.5" 44, 7.5" 454) and I really enjoy the feel of them. I just need about 4.5"s whacked off the 44 then it'll be perfect IMO. Great pics of what looks like an Outstanding huntin adventure, and good time with other short gun hunters. Thanks Ray

for some reason I can't see the pics now but I was able to see them earlier and it looks like y'all had a great time!!
if I had known y'all were coming down this way I would have driven over and said howdy. Hondo's just about an hour and a half away from me.

Thanks Ray To be fair, I don't really see them as "ugly". Not as sexy as a Triple-Lock and not worthy of hand engraving but not what I'd call ugly either. And I really like the old target gray finish.
