This is my second time around with this cartridge in a Contender.
The barrel is a 14" by SSK. Was traded into in a batch of stuff to be split up and sold. Short story is nothing invested in this barrel.
I decided to keep it due to my extreme love of 25 calibers.
Will wear a Simmons 2.5-7x scope. I think will be much better in the newer G2 frame.
A 100 grn at 2600+ or 85 grn at 2800+ is the name of this game. I love the vintage cartridges in Contenders.

I had an XP-100 in .250 Savage for more than 25 years, and sold it last year. It was a fine antelope cartridge.

I have had a couple of SSK 250 Savage barrels over the years. It is a very fine deer and antelope cartridge in a compact package.

I really like the parent case. I built a 6mm-250 savage rifle, I would like a Striker in the same. Mike

Encore64, like you I've always had a soft spot for the 25 calibers, especially the 250 Savage, 250 Improved, 257 Roberts & the 257 Improved. Deer, antelope & elk were taken cleanly with them & enough small game, varmints to fill a large truck bed. Its probably sitting right on the fence with the Contender frame & as you mentioned the G2 is a better fit. If a shooter is careful & stays right at factory levels its just fine on a Contender frame, problem is some guys don't understand pressure spikes & I know one maker who only made one 250 barrel for a Contender because he was afraid of liability. I made some amazing shots with my 250 Improved using the 85 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip, it was fantastic on deer & antelope. My longest ever deer kill was with this bullet.

I had a 250 Improved in an Encore barrel. It was one I foolishly sold. I've seen the 250 Savage chambered for the Contender. I like a knowledgeable, careful handloader could do quite well with it.

JUST WON A 14" SSK CONTENDER BARREL ON GB. TURNS OUT THE SELLER IS A GUY I KNOW IN MY HOMETOWN. PLAN TO MEET HIM WEDNESDAY TO DO THE DEAL. COMES WITH SOME BRASS (MOSTLY 22-250 HEADSTAMPED BRASS), LEE DIES AND SOME BULLETS. I HAVE 3 20 ROUND BOXES OF SOME FACTORY 90gr AMMO. THINKING OF PUTTING A SIMMONS 2.5-7X ON IT.

Rey, you'll have one fine rig!!!
I have had one since the early 90s. The second one, mentioned above, was added later. I eventually sold it to another forum member.
I'm thinning the TC Barrels these days. Keeping the ones I use and letting others enjoy the ones I don't use anymore...

Rey, down there in Texas you will probably have better luck with 100 gr bullets. Here in Idaho I always used that 85 gr. Nosler BT, it seemed to be a hard bullet because it always worked great on mule deer & I took 2 really big ones with it. Skip Talbot built me one on an XP100 back in about 1978-79 & it was a real hummer, you will really like that quarter bore! I still have some 250 Improved brass if someone wants it.

I’m actually looking at getting a SP in 250sav. to do double duty of medium game and varmints. Dick, I’m still on the fence about whether an AI version would be better?!?! If you’ve got dies to go with the brass I’d be interested.

Trapr, I sold the dies when I sold the barrel & I just gave away the brass to a forum member that contacted me. I think the 250 Improved was one of the better Improved cases ever developed. Again, I really made some impressive shots with that 85 gr Nosler BT, for some reason it was quite hard & held up well on game. It wasn't by design but by necessity but I made 2 kills over 400 yds using that bullet with the 250 Improved. One of my son's was with me on one of them & my Marine grandson witnessed the other one.

I’ve got a 25x45, and a 250sav and like them both. I used to have a 25-06 and a 257WM so no stranger to .25’s. The 250sav. Just seems like a great cartridge for SP’s and medium game. 250AI isn’t that far from a 25creedmoor. Except that I have more Savage brass than Creedmoor.

BTW, THE BARREL ALSO COMES WITH A T'SOB MOUNT AND A SYNTHETIC FOREARM. I AM PRIMARILY LOOKING AT IT AS A COYOTE GUN AND THINKING OF TAKING IT AND MY PRIMARY WHITETAIL HUNTING HANDGUN TO THE BLINDS WITH ME THIS UPCOMING SEASON. I AM REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS ACQUISITION.
