Glad to hear this Rey. After 30 Years with this setup, I can say you won't be disappointed.
AA2520 proved to be a top choice for powder. But, many choices work well.
Top it off with 85 or 100 grn Ballistic Tips and it'll perform the double duty you're asking with no problem...

Agree on the 250 Savage being effective on big game.
This is why when Ruger offered a Limited Edition #1 thru Lipseys, I jumped.
Mild recoil and effective on any game in my region...

GOT THE BARREL YESTERDAY. WAS NOT A T'SOB MOUNT BUT A WEAVER 92A. TOOK THE MOUNT OFF THIS MORNING, THE BARREL IS JUST D&T'ed FOR 4 SCREWS, IF IT HAD 6 I WOULD HAVE ORDERED A 6 HOLE T'SOB FROM THE NEW SSK. PRIOR OWNER SAID HE HAD JUST TIGHENED THE SCREWS AND NOT LOCKTITE'd 'em. I HAVE CLEANED UP THE TOP OF THE BARREL, SCREW HOLES, SCREWS AND MOUNT WITH RONSONOL LIGHER FLUID AND AM GOING TO REMOUNT THE MOUNT WITH SOME BLUE LOCKTITE. I SHOULD HAVE ENOUGH SPARE SSK RINGS (HOPEFULLY THE SPLIT TYPE) TO GET 3-4 RINGS ON THE SCOPE.
IN MY PISTOL SCOPE INVENTORY, I HAVE A HIGH END NIB 2.5x8 LEUPOLD I BOUGHT A COUPLE OF YEARS BACK AND, RATHER THAN THE SIMMONS, I MAY PUT THE LEUPOLD ON THIS 250 SAVAGE BARREL.

The recoil is very mild on that setup. I like the heavy duty mount system for the big boomers. But, for the 250 Savage, it's not necessary.
My was a 4-Hole Mount and never moved. Only had two vertical split rings it. Warne Rings if I recall correctly...

Happy hunting Rey, you picked a winner. Huey, I'll bet that Ruger #1 is a real beauty in a 250 Savage. Guessing they were made on the shorter 1A style?

I am the one Huey sold the barrel to. It is an excellent shooter wit 89 gr and 100 gr bullets. The barrel has turned a plum color which I haven’t seen on a barrel before. I had just bought a frame when I got it and the frame was also plum on the barrel release and hammer. I put one of the new Weaver 2x6 pistol scopes when Natchez was blowing them out. So far so good

THE LEUPOLD 2.5x8 IS MATTE AND BULKIER THAN THE SILVER 2.5x7 SIMMONS SO I AM MOUNTING THE SIMMONS. WITH THE WEAVER 92A MOUNT I CAN ONLY GET 3 SSK SPLIT RINGS ON THE SCOPE, WHICH SHOULD BE MORE THAN ENOUGH.
THE 3 BOXES OF AMMO I HAVE IS SOME HENDERSHOT's EXTREME CUSTOM AMMO USING AN 87gr HORNADY SPIRE POINT WITH A MV OF 3,000fps. THE LOAD DATA I LOOKED AT ON LOADDATA.COM IS MOSTLY FROM 22" OR 24" BARRELS SO GUESSING THE "3,000 FPS" IS FROM A 24" BARREL I SHOULD GET AROUND 2,650fps FROM THE 14" CONTENDER. FROM REVIEWS I SAW ON THE 87gr HORNADY SPIRE POINT (IN RIFLES) AT RANGES FROM CLOSE TO 400yds, 2,650fps SHOULD BE FAST ENUFF FOR COYOTES/SLOW ENOUGH FOR DEER AND HOGS AT THE RANGES I WILL USE IT (200yds AND LESS/MOSTLY AROUND 100yds).
HOPE TO GET IT TO THE RANGE TOMORROW TO SIGHT IN.

Rey, there is data from XP’s on LoadData, I was looking at it the other day. I’d bet you can equal your 6.5jdj velocity with 100’s easily.

Rey, you're right in the ballpark. Mid 2600s for the 100 grn Bullets.
I've kept all my main TC Data for about 35 years. I've even got JD's loads somewhere.
I'll try to find it and make some copies...

I have a 250 Savage, not in a Contender, but in an MOA. I use the 100 grain Ballistic Tip for groundhogs, deer and others as opportunity presents. At first, I was cautious using the 250 for big game, but it has proven itself to be a brilliant deer killer. I have complete confidence in the 250 as a primary deer gun, and used it on game as large as this Red deer hind
The Nosler has performed well on everything from groundhogs to deer and up. Those are some great animals! A couple of my MOAs are in 250 and 250AI, a near perfect round in these guns for efficacy and recoil. It seems like 25 caliber bullets perform very well at specialty pistol velocities.

WENT TO MY RANGE ON THE RIO GRANDE YESTERDAY MORNING. 4 ROUNDS @ 25 YARDS TO SIGHT IN, THEN 3 SHOTS @ A 4.5" GONG @ 100yds, ALL HITS. SHOT 7 ROUNDS TOTAL, THE GUN TRACKED SIGHT ADJUSTMENTS AND APPEARS TO BE VERY ACCURATE WITH THE HENDERSHOT's 250 SAVAGE CUSTOM AMMO USING A 87gr HORNADY SPIRE POINT. I USED THE G2 FRAME, FOREARM AND GRIP I USE ON MY 14" 6.5 JDJ, SOME VINTAGE SSK SPLIT RINGS, AND A 2.5x7 SIMMONS SCOPE, MAKES FOR A NEAT PACKAGE, SEE PICTURE BELOW. link
