Last week one of my son's came up with a couple of his boys & they did a little varmint hunting with the younger one getting his first Rock Chuck & the older one (14) getting his first badger & did he ever kill a whopper! We've been shooting badgers for years, I have no idea how many I've taken but it's for sure well over 100 & my 4 boys have probably taken that many between them & this old boy might just be the biggest one we've ever had the pleasure of busting. He is an absolute Pig, probably approaching 50 lbs! He was totally surrounded bu Ground Squirrels & had been eating very well.
This young man already has a B&C Antelope, a very nice muley buck & a really good black bear with the tag I gave him last year.
Today while the grandkids were in school me & 2 of my son's slipped off for our own safari & we hit the squirrels pretty hard. I talked them out of using their 22 rifles & handed each of them a handgun, bad mistake, they like shooting dads ammo! We were miles from town & just shooting out the window of my truck, Shane had my 45 Colt Mountain Gun thats been cut for moon clips & loaded with 205 gr. HP's, powder coated. The squirrels were taking a pounding, he is a superb shot. Travis was in the back seat shooting my Ruger 30 Carbine loaded with 32/20's & running some 118 gr. HP's that were also powder coated. The squirrels that tried to catch one of these were turned into strawberry jelley & scattered over 10 ft. of Sagebrush.
As we were headed back to town a very unlucky Skunk meandered out of the lava's & started sniffing around a wood pile at about 49 yds guesstimated. Travis, with the scoped 32/20 donated 118 grs. of lead poison & really punched his ticket! I had Travis kneel down behind the Skunk so I could get a photo & just before I got it he started gagging & took off! Shane had tears running down his face.
Travis came back & tried again but told me to hurry, he held his breath & I took the photo & he started gagging again, funny stuff!
This is me holding the S&W 45 Mountain Gun, very accurate, I just throw 4-5 extra moon clips in my back pockets & I'm good to go.
