Man- I watched your buddy running the match with his .44 and he sure is lucky he didn't blow the end off of his thumb!

I settled on 29.0 gr of 4227 and the 300gr XTP Mag for this weekend, I figured that powder charge would ensure smooth extraction if the cylinder gets hot, which it likely will. After doing the sight in and a quick practice session extraction was nice and easy, 54 rounds (3x18) all came out on the first ejector stroke and I was shooting strings of 18 as fast I could get on target from the holster followed by two reloads. I managed one fist sized group at about 10 yards in rapid fire, that was pretty cool, others were not as pretty but should still make the A zone. Only hitch in my original plan was the grip, I was shooting it with the Altamont GP style shown below and that drew a lot of blood. Enough that I needed to clean it off the rear sight and cylinder, lol. At least we know they have some traction! Switching it for the factory Hogue should solve that problem and round count is going to be 85 or less which should be very manageable. I think this will be fun, but I don't think I will be tackling high round counts in ICORE or USPSA any time soon, I'll leave that for Sean!

But I'd opt for cheaper bullets and a lower Power Factor...

at the distances you're shooting, you could probably get by with some cheaper factory cast bullets... I really like the grips pictured, but can certainly understand too much bleeding for your sport...
keep us in the loop...

I was at a concealed carry IPSC match and a guy showed up with a Desert Eagle 44 mag. No such thing as a light load in a DE if you want it to run reliably. Bob used full tilt loads with 240 grain jhp bullets and AA9. That was a riot to watch, too.

That was cool. It always makes me cringe to see that offhand thumb pointed down range along side of the cylinder. I thought it looked blackend in a few shots.

I get the idea of running milder cast loads, I might run some coated 300gr bullets at 300 PF next month. Once person even suggested I try a full case of black powder, that might be pretty cool. But for quite a while I've wanted to run full loads in a regular match and see how much slower it really is compared to my 160-170 PF stuff. Another REV shooter is usually really close to my times so I'm going to use him as a benchmark, we had a few matches that were maybe 2% different in overall time. As for bullet selection, I'm just shy of book max at 29gr and decided to stick with the XTP Mag. I've run a few hundred of them in that territory and they have been great.

I don't think I will be tackling high round counts in ICORE or USPSA any time soon, I'll leave that for Sean! Me?? I'm crazy, but I don't know that I'm THAT crazy! I try to Avoid bleeding when I shoot guns! Lighter loads sounds tempting, run it a bit mild but throw big hunks of lead. It'll be a blast for you! I probably would have gone with light loads, so kudo's to you for not wimping out! I might, maybe be up for trying this at an ICORE match. If I make it to the first one, I'll run my 929 because it's the day before the state match and I don't want to switch guns. At some point this year, I HAVE to run Classic! And I'm looking forward to that, see if I know how to count to six.

If I go light loads I'm really tempted to try black powder, I've never loaded it myself but lots of our SASS guys do and I'm sure they would help me out. As for ICORE...I was all set to run L6 this year until I got a CMore for my birthday. I don't have the self control so I'm shooting "Open 6" in April. I'll run L6 at the next one! Then hopefully classic at the next, I've got a really well sorted 6" GP100 that's never seen a timer.

You're about as decisive as me! You reminded me, the gun I plan to run in classic currently sports a cheapo optic. So it's Classic Open. Or I can try my mini-PPC gun, with a moderately heavy 4" bull barrel and awesome (Aristocrat?) sights. Still shopping for a 5" or 6" gun for classic...

My FFL had dozens of vintage S&W revolvers last time I saw him. I've been thinking a fixed sight 38 with the M&P style top strap would be great for classic.

Match was a lot of fun today, 400 PF loads were actually pretty pleasant with a Hogue tamer grip. None of the shooters in my squad had any issue with the 454 and there was no issue with pasters blowing off. I had so much fun I think I'll do it again next match. I was about 45% slower in overall time, no surprise there! The best part is one guy I normally shoot really similar times with ran a 41 Mag BUG revolver today and we finished right next to each other in total time. I have a new respect for all of you speedloader guys, I spent a lot of time reloading compared to the moonclips.
