news.yahoo.com/soon--licensed-texans-will-be-able-to-carry-their-guns-in-the-open--203159145.htmlThe stories we will read: Terrified people reporting law abiding citizens going about their business. Tbis should fade away fairly quickly. Post after post of carriers boycotting businesses that will not allow open carry. These folks will never shut up about it. Me? I wont be carrying openly. I prefer to go around under the radar. So I wont be boycotting my favorite restaurant or grocery store because I can still carry concealed. Just like I want to anyway. Merry Christmas every one. And a VERY hapoy New Year

We had similar turbulence recently when the open carry law was clarified giving OC-ers the absolute right to do so.
Before the law was unclear and left a LOT of room for interpretation, making OC a gamble. I do if i am working on the farm and stop at a store but i mainly CC for the same reason. I do t like attention.

No open carry for me unless I'm in the woods, or on my property. Much better to be under the radar. I fully support those that do Open Carry, but it is not for me.

There's lots of folks that open carry in NC. It has become so common place that it's normal here (eastern NC/Camp Lejeune/Jacksonville area). Go and buy a pizza from the local pizzeria, there will be a guy behind the counter with a gun on his hip. It's a given to see someone open carrying somewhere out in town. I now advocate for open carry, gotta shed the stigma.

I too prefer to be discreet so never carry open in town. About the only ones I see carrying openly around here are young guys at Walmart....

Open or CCW,,,,,,,,,,,, BOTH have their merits. By going CCW,,, you have the element of surprise if it's ever needed. Going open,,, (something legal here in NC long before CCW was,,) can be a wonderful conversation started. Heck,, at my sisters house yesterday,,, there were 4 of us looking at guns & this topic came up. I do both. Open carry allows for the non gun owning public to see that gun people are not "bad, knuckle dragging, thugs etc." I've had several experiences where my open carry got noticed,,, and there was the potential for a heated discussion etc. But when I go calmly discussing things,,, and not get hot headed emotional, or even consider the gun on my hip,,, the non-gun people see a different idea of what they perceived as a gun owner. Example; A friend & I went to the dealership where his wife had just bought a car to get an item they promised her. For him it was a 35 mile drive, one way. We got there, and they couldn't find a correct part to fit his exact model, even after they'd promised him one & told him they had it. He was carrying CCW, but he's not a hot-head. But he was very upset. Yet, the sales folks were watching me, and almost "circling" around as Danny was giving them heck! I finally stepped over, addressing the manager Danny was speaking with & calmly, politely asked him; "Excuse me,,, do you have any models just like the one you just sold him on the lot?" He replied he did.I said; "Why not remove the cover & give him one out of an in-stock car & look for a replacement at your leisure?" The mgr suddenly had the light bulb go off & immediately had the part for Danny. As it was getting put in,, he came to me & thanked me for good thinking,, AND for being a calm voice in all this. He admitted he'd been concerned a bit because I was carrying a gun, but saw I wasn't a worry & was quite helpful. I chose to not let him know that Danny was carrying.
So, open carry allows us to educate a lot of people. It also removes the stigma that the anti-gunners have tried to paint us as bad people.
But,,, if I feel like I'm going into a place in question,,, mine will disappear,,, unless needed.

"Gotta shed the stigma". Nicely put and correct. We will be out bred and out voted soon. We need to pull some to our side, recruit, educate. With that said, I don't do it enough myself.

"Preparing for open carry"
...........I thought that meant buying a new jacket that fit a bit looser to prevent chafing - what do I know?

Open Carry; I've only open carried once.. I have to be honest, I didn't much like it. I felt like all eyes were on me, and it also felt like I would be the first target if a bad situation did occur.
Concealed carry; I like to fly under the radar, and if something bad did happen you might get the upper hand with a concealed weapon...? I do like the Option to OC instead of Having to CC..
I like the option, and I wish Every state allowed CC and/or OC .

I have a sign on the pharmacy "No open carry please. Concealed carry highly encouraged." I personally dont like seeing open carry and I figure if it makes even one of my customers uncomfortable, then that is enough for me. That being said, I have a sign my son made me a while back prominently displayed behind the counter for all to see...
