Even if it is a limited? What makes it a limited?

Even if it is a limited? What makes it a limited? Isn't the Limited the 18" or 20" octogon barreled model? I might hurt my arm reaching for a wallet and strain my mind sorting a excuse for having to have it for the wife.

I hear that they shoot fairly well depending on the load. Went away from the micro rifling to better shoot cast bullets.
Given the wide range of 45 Colt loads, terminal performance must be all over the map and potentially quite good.
I don't know, but wonder, if the 1894 can handle heavy 5-shot "Ruger Only" loads.
I imagine that given their relative newness, that all 45 Colt 1894's have the cross-bolt safety. That's ok with me if they do.

I have had one for over 10 years......You stole that gun $650. And yes they shoot VERY good. I have never seen 5 shot data but mine handles Ruger Only loads just fine. The only drawback I have found is you cant get really carried away with bullets because of the shortness of the action. And yes they are cross bolted.

I replace all the crossbolt safeties in my Marlins with the slotted blanks that look like just another screw.
It's quick and easy, but trims up the looks of the Marlins quickly.

Have you all played with different barrel lengths? I hear that they produced some with an 18" barrel. Wonder if that barrel length handles as well as the 20"
How do you all think of this chambering as a hunting tool? Is it good for deer sized game at say 100 yards? Where does it fall short compared to a 30-30 chambering? I have a lever-action in 30-30, but have always thought the 45 Colt might be an effective chambering, an very compact with an 18" barrel.

The biggest buck I have ever killed and the only one I have mounted fell to a 255 SWC and H110 at about 75 yards. It does everything a 45 Colt can do in a revolver just with more umph. Im not aware of the different barrel lengths and the octagon barreled Cowboy Limited's are generally kind of hard to find and for me rather expensive. The $650 the OP paid is definitely not the norm.

That was a $900 gun BEFORE the Marlin/Remlin craziness. $650 is probably about half price these days.

Hey encore64 i just purchased a 45-70 1895 Marlin and was wondering about if I needed the cross bolt safety. Where do you get the slotted blanks and is it easy for someone that doesn't work on firearms. thanks

$650 is a great price these days.! They are ballard rifled in the LTD/Limited/CB/Cowboy model and came with a 20" and/or 24" models. The "safety delete" can be purchased from Beartooth Mercantile in either the screw look alike style or a saddle ring style.
These days they sell from $850 Up depending on condition, and $850 is Low so $650 is stealing it!!!!

And, YES to accurate and deadly hunting.
