Zeus has used quite a bit of HS6 in his 475L with the 385 HP.

HS6 is the reloading world's most underrated powder. I don't know. I haven't seen it on shelves in forever. I found 2400 and unique in BP in Orlando last week. I've inly worked with HS6 so far in revolvers but wanted to run Unique in the 50sp. At least HS6 can be had online again.

Well.... I got to the range today with the above mentioned loads. !4.5 grs. of HS-6 and 12 grs. of Longshot, loaded in .480 brass. I had 5 different PC cast bullets ranging from 340 grs. to 420 grs. I made my target with 10- 2" orange squares. Set the chronograph up, made sure the target was visible through the sky screens from the bench, put my ear muffs on, loaded my Linebaugh, and flipped the switch......nothing!!! The $*&^@!&$^%^#&$^%$* battery was dead! No chronographed loads today. All the loads shot around 2" or better at 25 yards. All cases extracted easily with no hint of sticking in the cylinder chamber. Sorry I don't have any velocities, but I will get them next week. I now have a 2 pack of 9V batteries in my range bag till then. The loads were pretty mild in the recoil department. Can't wait to get some speeds on them.

I never leave a battery in my chronograph after one leaked and ruined the contacts in my old Chrony. That way I know l need a battery every time I go to the range. Bummer though. Once I drove out to the range with my wife and daughter and forgot the new key to the gate. Dummy me!

The next two mornings, will get some 325gr XTP's loaded. These for the Sunday afternoon shoot here. Am into leaf raking/burning season. Busy this am.. My favorite yard work. Sunday afternoon, open invite, PM me for cell/info/directions. I have to agree with some of the thoughts above per my Penn 335gr casts. They need more speed, and after wiggling them and the XTP's into the front of the cylinder, they could stand to be a bit bigger. I bought them before gun was in hand, didn't opt on sizing. Stay the course, folks. steve

Wow ! The powder fairy just visited here ! Same one as visited with Hoover. You will get paybacks ! Thank You COR. A Lb of always welcome Unique. The Penn bullets will get switched over to slow burners, a further search for frog smackin' bullets to commence. A few rows of 325gr XTP's sitting on 24grs of IMR4227, for Sundays shooting ready to go. Again, THANKS !

What do ya'll consider to be the nominal weight for a 480 bullet ? Curious. Just averaging out the weights that I've seen offered gets me 340-350 grs.. Yet, from what I see listed on web forums it looks like I might have to guess nom to be closer to 370-380 ?

Yet, from what I see listed on web forums it looks like I might have to guess nom to be closer to 370-380 ? Well the common spread is 325-435gr in cast Bullets and I have molds all through the spread, I have settled in on 375-390gr being the happy place for the cartridge in my never humble opinion. I personally have struggled to get consistent accuracy from lighter than 350gr bullets, especially beyond 50 yards and the same it true on the upper weight bullets as well. If I was packing the gun in Alaska as a bear stopper I might run a 425gr bullet at 1050fps not worry about how in my gun the destabilize beyond 50 yards. But I don't see an Alaskan fishing trip on the near horizon. In my Freedom Arms I have settled into the use of 2 bullets exclusively, a 375gr LFNPB from a LBT mood and the famed Miha hollowpoint bullet. In real life the LBT drops at 385gr and the Miha drops at 390gr (depending on my alloy being used). From 850fps to 1300fps these two bullets do everything I can ask the cartridge to do. Of course you mileage may vary.

Those HPs look great. Is there a commercial source for 475 caliber HPs?

I don't cast, so I have no idea. I assume some sort of pin must be used to make the cavity
