It's funny how these things keep following me home.
A month ago, I saw a barely used new 480 SRH for sale with a bunch of ammo at a local gun store. I made a ridiculously low offer for it, (not really sure about this 480 Ruger thing) and the guy took my offer. Then I shot it at my range and WOW, it was love at first shot. This gun is just as accurate as Max Prasac reported in his article. If you haven't read it yet, here's a link- www.gundigest.com/firearm-gun-reviews/prodigal-gun-ruger-480-super-redhawk-review. Darn guys with their Big Bore Revolver Books and Revolver Articles. Such a bad influence. ;-)
Life was great, then I stumbled into a trade for an older Target Grey SRH 480. I couldn't pass it up. So then there were two. Who says you can't love your children equally?
I can't wait for hunting season this year. My place offers 50 yard shots for deer and black bear. I think these Super Redhawks with 325gr Hornady ammo should do very well for them.
Looks like I need to get into reloading soon. Does anyone have any recommended reload recipes suited for deer and black bear? I'd also like to find a portable reload system so I can reload a few rounds when I'm away from home. Any recommendations would greatly be appreciated.
I have a funny feeling that the newer SRH might be shortened into a Toklat. Hmmmm.
Here's a couple pics of my girls.
Let's make this a 480 Pic Thread.

Haha! It's good to have more than one -- that way they don't get lonely!
Thanks for the kind words!

Nice SRHs. My go to load is a 400-410 gr. cast bullet over 21 gr of 4227 for ~1100fps. It's a nice controllable load that will get the job done. Here's one of my 480's that started out as a 9" target grey...

I bought one of the target gray model 480's several years ago & shot a bull moose with it using the same load Kraig mentions, 21 grs. of 4227 & a 370 gr. cast slug, got comeplete penetration on the bull at about 45 yds & he was down in 7-8 seconds, one shot. This load is powerful, easy to control, accurate & many others have used it to take lots of game, mostly with complete penetration, including bears, elk, bison & big feral hogs. A couple of very unhappy badgers didn't like this load & my dentist used the same load to take his bull moose with my Harton 480 with one shot. Its a proven load thats exiting bull moose & bison..... arokcrwlr- That is a Nice SRH. I like the bead blast finish.
Sixshot- Also a nice piece, how's the recoil in the Blackhawk?
Thanks for the reload info guys, I see a pattern. Would it be to much for deer though?

Regardless what load you use, the 480 is most likely more than enough for deer. That shouldn't stop you - I have a friend who uses a 300 Win Mag for whitetail.

That's a nice looking pair of 480's, brasf0311! I've got a matching set of Super Redhawks that I affectionately call "the twins" I've got the 454 and 480 in the 7 1/2" model. The 480 seems to really like 400 grain cast: I've used it to take three pigs so far: Have fun with the new toys, congrats!

Amen to that, gentlemen! Great round, great revolver! This is the second animal I have ever taken with my first .480 SRH -- big Florida hog: And this is an animal I took last year with my new .480 SRH: And another from the past......

I bought a set, 454 & 480, of the new model 7 1/2" models on Whit's review. He was spot on and I am very happy with the guns.
The rubber grips aren't attractive, but are very effective and easy to hold.

"Exiting Moose & Bison..." well why on Earth would you need more than that?

Thanks for the Pics and info guys. I appreciate the input. Here's a couple more pics I found online, so if you recognize them, please chime with the info about them. Thanks.
Not 480, but what I might turn one of my 480's into;
