That Number Five base pin locking mechanism, to me at least, is one of the things that MAKE a Number Five...that, and the grip shape. That base pin locking mechanism is so simple and elegant in concept, and (from what I understand from talking to gunmakers about it) so complex in execution, that I have no word for it better than "beautiful".
IMO, any Number Five reproduction that does not include both of these elements, the base pin locking mechanism and the grip shape, is NOT a Number Five at all.

Thanks for the fantastic explanation, MajorKap! That design is definitely overkill for holding in a base pin, but I like it. Boge said it well, looks beautiful! Great, now I have another gun added to my ever growing "need" list.

Just when I am almost done with the program and think I have it licked you all haul off and post Revolver porn and the fire of addiction flares up again.

I don't know of anywhere somebody as ignorant as me could get the sort of information and understanding that's included in this thread. Just a few days ago I had to ask what a "TLA" was and then I get the education......
As if the elegance of the base pin and the exceptional photography wasn't enough, then we get Warren's pictures... Holy Cow!
What a treat! Thanks guys.
I'd hope you get the pics to Mr. Taffin so he can include them in the write up.

I agree, the cylinder latch is one of my favorite features of Bill Grover's guns. Here's a side view of the TLA cylinder latch by Alan Harton

Absolutely no offense to anyone here. The Warrens TLA has to be the most beautiful single action...no, that's just not true. It's the most beautiful gun I've ever seen. I can only imagine it's even better to actually see it "in person".
Is there a story to go along?

I CAN'T ARGUE WITH YOU BUT I WOULD SURE LIKE TO SEE SOME GOOD PICTURES I COULD USE IN MY ARTICLE ON BILL GROVER (THAT'S A HINT WARREN!!!!!) A PAPER TOWEL OR WHATEVER AS A BACKGROUND IS OBSCENE!!! IF YOU COULD TAKE SOME GOOD PHOTOS WITH A GOOD BACKGROUND OUTSIDE IN THE SHADE AND MAIL A CD TO ME I WOULD SURE TRY TO USE THEM. WHAT YOU HAVE IS NOT USABLE. GOOD SHOOTIN' AND GOD BLESS,JOHN

I don't think that's just any old paper towel. I believe it's one of them quicker picker uppers, quilted.

Last pics for now....the mosquitoes were voracious out there. But, before I send you a CD Mr. Taffin, I hope to get over to Lancaster, KY and get a few pics of a couple more types of TLA's and possibly a few shots of the remaining stock. Are you operating on a deadline?
