cstokes, thanks I'm going to hunt locally first. badgermatt, yes he is. To my surprise I received my nra magazine and they had the second half of the article on Ruark's safari. Then there was an article on Selby himself, and he is indeed still upright. I found his argument for a bolt-action rifle in .375 H&H quite persuasive. He sounds like a nice guy. I'll probably frame the book mark. wingmaster, what do you think of "Use Enough Gun"? If my current sales on Ebay go well I am eyeballing a Jim Corbett omnibus. Mr.Corbett is one of my personal heroes, someone I wish I could be like. I have "Maneaters of Kumaon",and "Jim Corbett's India". Also, Kenneth Anderson's "Call of the Maneater". Whenever I have time I am off to Africa or India by way of the Walter Mitty travel agency and on safari with Barney Fife professional hunters association.

"Use Enough Gun" is composed of excerpts from several of his books plus some magazine articles.

Interesting,I think I'd acquire horn of the hunter first though. Did well on Ebay(who would think a toy robot would be worth that much??) ,so I ordered the Jim Corbett omnibus. I'm also working lately on transferring "Maneaters of india" from VHS to dvd.

I haven't read "Use enough gun" but I've heard enough about it that I'd like to read it some time.

Dont know if you have it but get Capsticks Last of the Ivory Hunters. Its about Wally Johnson, the guy lived an amazing life. Also get the classic Man Eaters of Tasvo by Patterson. Not the best written book but a great story.

Rigby I have both books you have mentioned, and I agree with your summation. I am now halfway through Safari:Chronicle of Adventure by Bartle Bull, and I recommend it to anyone interested in such. I even managed to transfer from vhs to dvd 'Maneaters of India'.

I have Elmer Keith's "Safari". Went up to his place in March of !976, and had him sign some of his books. He corrected some of the printing mistakes in the books, so they are kinda special to me. Great ol' hunter, that guy.

Elmer Keith wrote a book called Safari? I hadn't heard of it. It sounds like you have a very special collection of books.

Score!! I found John Taylor's African Rifles and Cartridges for $5 and Dennis Lyell's African Adventure for $3. The shipping amounted to $8 for both books,I'll have scrape up the money for 'em by selling a kidney, but for that price I could not turn it down.
