My 5 shot .500 Linebaugh Super Redhawk GP-44 conversion built by Hamilton Bowen is finally home. This revolver has been in the works for years between collecting parts and waiting on the build. Started with a .44 magnum Super Redhawk Alaskan and a 6" .44 magnum Colt Anaconda barrel. The gun came out with a 4 3/16 inch barrel. I asked BCA to make it as long as they could and this is as much as they can get with a 6 inch re-bore. The gun is much lighter than I expected. I've had a .45 Colt 6 shot as well as a 5 shot .480 Ruger with Anaconda barrels built on the standard Redhawks in the past and I swear they were heavier. I don't know the weight of this gun or the others for that matter but this one seems lighter. Maybe it's the bigger holes or it's just balanced better. This is a "grail gun" for me so hopefully it will stay for a while. Can't wait to shoot it! Now I need to test the hidestretcher's skill, some custom grips and I'll be ready to go. Enjoy. Bushy do you still have this piece? and if so have you shot it much?

Bigbrowndog probably has more experience with the .500 Redhawks than anybody I know if you have a specific question…. You never had one built?

I bought a BCA Super Redhawk from Stan 10 years ago and Had Andy cut it down to a 4 inch...and a few other mods it looks like a 4 inch Alaskan...The GP 100 Model in 4 inch just seems like it might be lighter weight wise...

Thanks for the responses gentlemen. My Bowen Kodiak Redhaw .44 Mag’s lanyard ring is held in by a roll pin and it swivels so I can’t unscrew it like Trapr unfortunately. Maybe I’ll bug Hamilton and ask for advice. Cheers guys

500fksjr,……I can weight mine and post it here if you’d like, I would be interesting to see weight differences between SRH 500L and RH 500L, granted one of mine is a 5” custom milled barrel from BCA, and the other a rebored 5.5”.

There can be no doubt that Ruger has seen the Bowen GP 44. What a mistake to not adjust the design to mimic it. Realizing it is a technically viable revolver as is, why deny the aesthetic deficiency, pride? The SRH could have been a good seller - doubt that it has been. I would be proud to own the “corrected” ugly duckling. What a shame it costs $3K to do so.
Kudos to those on the forum with the vision to commission one done right! I like all of them from GP44 through 500.

I really like this one, and keep looking at it. I never paid any attention to the question you asked ten years ago about the weight on this one being lighter, and then read through the comments to see what was said, but no one answered it so I laughed. Bigger holes and NO Redhawk grip frame, and a lil lightweight piece of molded rubber for grips. That's the difference, and I NEVER thought about that on the GP44 conversions before, but that weight loss is something to ponder IF you want it gone. This gun in .50 Spl might jus make a lot of sense for a hard use working gun for hog and bear guys that run dogs. I don't run dogs anymore, and we don't even have any hogs or bears running wild here, but I still want one now that I've seen it and thought about it.

Some weights of 5.5” RedHawks would be nice to add to the list for comparison, 357’s, 44’s, 41’s, 45’s. Should make a very useful info comparison. Also better description of the customs if they deviate from the normal barrel contour, I know there are Anaconda/Redhawks out there as well as SP contour

Me Too,….i hope you like it. I’m sending a 357 Redhawk to Jack for conversi9n to a 5” 45LC, with nice chambers , 4525 throats, and a DX front sight. Basically a twin to my 500L SRH except a RH. It’s not like I need a 500L for Texas wandering around. Which is wear most of my contract work gets done, but when I go Northwest the 500L is my buddy.
