I have a CZ 550 FS in 9.3x62 and it's a great rifle. Have multiple CZs in rimfires and one 527 in the 7.62x39. All are excellent shooters. I have no knowledge of the 505 Gibbs, but highly recommend the CZ rifles.

I have owned several and all are good rifles. Currently have one of the big boys in .404 Jeffery and love it. Took a 9.3x62 to Africa twice and it did great. They are a good value though not perhaps the bargain they once were as prices are going up on them. Also have an early Model 1 .22LR, a classic now. No thoughts on the .505 except to say it isn't necessary for anything on this planet. Great stopper but, but on both ends, though CZ does build theirs with a mercury recoil reducer I think.

I have two the first is a euro model with a fancy stock in 375 H&H. [ Will sell that one ] that has express sights,set trigger
and shoots well. [does not kick bad]
The other is a "working gun " built like the ones sent to the park rangers in Africa , plain and tough, express sights ,set trigger and in 416 Rigby.....
That one is a beast but a keeper.
Unless you go custom, I doubt you can find a rifle with the quality of a cz 550 and the price is good!

I've had a 550 sitting on the shelf since 2012. Bought it from Brownells and one of these days it'll become a .600 Overkill. Great action, one of the best large ring magnums you can buy as a standalone receiver. A lot of the express rifle purists crave the old Brevex, but the CZ 550 is the way to go.  They are fine rifles indeed. I've had several and hung onto my 9.3x62. The receiver has plummed as an added bonus |

The intent of a rifle like this is to plug a large hole in someone's want list that has been created by a vigorous application of too much Capstick, Keith, Hemingway, Ruark, et al. Most all of us are driven by "want" rather than "need", otherwise we would only have one rifle, one handgun, one shotgun. Oh, the horror! |

A 505 Gibbs loaded with cast bullets over Trail Boss or 5744 could be a lot of fun.
I've had a few 550's in 9.3x62 and 375 H&H and they were excellent shooters.

Just because...and it is fun to be different,I have a 74 sharps chambered in 50 Alaskan and an 86 win in 50 express that I load from original specs to 700 grns of lead at 1300 fps...I have owned 2 500 nitro doubles and they were a hoot...Seems that I can load up or down a 505 Gibbs and have a bolt gun for anywhere in the world I may want to hunt... I must say I would not go back to Africa with out something in the nitro or gibbs class...Hope this helps and Thanks for asking... |
