I have a custom 45 Colt New Frontier with an auxillary cylinder in 45acp/AR and we have shot it almost exclusively with the acp and AR cylinder rather than the Colt cylinder.

I remember a oned-armed gent at an IDPA comp, near Youngstown ohio. He was shooting an old double action revovler in .45acp.. Don't know if Colt or S&W. Never got close enough to see, did have lanyard and matte finished. He was amazing !

These days, I probably shoot .45 ACP in single action revolvers more than any other cartridge. Over the years, I've had 4 DA's and 4 SA's in the caliber. Still have all the SA's.

I own a few of the Ruger Blackhawks with both cylinders. I also own some 1911's in 45 ACP. As such,, I shoot 45 ACP a lot,,, and I do enjoy them in my Blackhawks too!

I have several 4" Smiths and a FA97 that will handle the ACP. I am also rebuilding a Colt New Service just for fun.

My stainless S&W Mountain Gun in .45acp (pre-internal lock) is one of my favorite handguns. I took my city-born-&-bred female cousin shooting for the first time. She worked her way up from .22 cal. to the .45 revolver, and proclaimed it to be her favorite; she told me it was "empowerering" to shoot. With some practice, the moon-clip reloading is pretty smooth. I have some Auto Rim from Buffalo Bore, but not yet tried them (no moon-clip used here). I only have one, but a Mountain Gun in most any of its calibers is one to have, I'd say.
The Blackhawk convertible .45 acp cylinder adds versatility for that single-action. Mine does well with either cylinder. No moon clips needed, but reloading is obviously slower.
The good thing about these revolvers is that they will shoot about any configuraton of .45 ACP with no feeding problems. However, some of the factory ACP shotshells won't work in the Blackhawk cylinder (as indicated on the ammo box).

I made the "switch" to 45acp in a revolver earlier this year. Right now I have a S&W 625 that see's 45 acp and 45 Super. It has earned a spot in my gun case next to my 1911's when I load out for the ranch or range.
I do not own a Colt single action, but know at some point I will have to have one. It's probably gonna be a New Frontier, and it is almost certainly going to have the ability to shoot 45 acp. I have been researching the conversion or purchase of spare cylinders for a Colt, and no matter the route, it looks like a pretty expensive road to have a case colored Colt, in 45acp, new or used. If I had any sense, I would send my FA 454 in to be fitted for an acp cylinder. But I am guesing FA will not case color my frame, nor stamp "Colt" on it ;^)
For those of you that have them, I am happy you are enjoying them. And thanks for not posting pictures, to rub my nose in it.

The 45 ACP in a revolver is a dandy, I won matches all over the western US for several years using one before switching to a 40 caliber S&W. A 225 gr roundnose with 5 grs to 5.5 grs of WST is a winner in any 45 revolver. 231 also works well but it caused me a lot of grief keeping powder factor.

I have two S&W 625's and primarily use 45 AR brass with an LBT 230 WFN-GC. Veral put most of the bullet out of the case and have had excellent results using Longshot, Herco or WSF.

I have three (3) S & W Model 25-2 .45 ACP Revolvers, three (3) S & W Model 22 (1 Pre-22 and 2 Model 22-4's) .45 ACP Revolvers, a S $ W Model 1937 .45 ACP, a S & W Model 625 .45 ACP 3" Revolver, a Ruger Blackhawk .45 with a .45 ACP Cylinder, a Ruger Bisley .45 with a .45 ACP Cylinder and three (3) Colt SAA (3 1/2", 4 3/4" and a 7 1/2") with a .45 ACP extra cylinder. My Colt SAA 4 3/4" shoots so well with the .45 ACP Cylinder in it that, that is the cylinder I keep in it all of the time (it a tackdriver!). What's not to love about a .45 ACP Revolver ......
