I loaded and reloaded both mules after about a 4 hour ride up and down the mountain. Hopefully headed for Hells Canyon in May so they need to get back in shape as does my backside after this winter. Saddle both and swap out animals at the half way point so both get to haul my fanny and both get to play pack animal.

Bonded with the 550 for a short while. Made enough 45 ACP to get me through a couple of days on the range. Found a can of jacketed 185 SWCs that I knew I had but didn't remember that it was so big...

Traveling for work today and struck "powder gold!" Scored an 8 lb keg of Unique, 4 lbs each of RL22 and Tac and a brick of CCI Large Pistol primers. Someone help me with the math: 10 or 15 grains of Unique (depending on either .44 Mag or .475 Linebaugh) x "X number of loaded cartridges worth of powder" = 8 pounds of Unique; what is "X?"

So you bought roughly 56,000 gr of Unique, which would be 3700-5600 loads for you! Where were you at when you found your gold?

Lee, I wonder if a plain base 500 grain bullet would solve any of the issues with bulging the casings? from what I gather, the extra weight of the 500s over the 440s is in the rear? and the nose to crimp groove is essentially the same length?? I have been thinking about designing a mould through mountain moulds with a weight of 480-500 for my .500 JRH that is plain base, and maybe lengthen the nose a tad and make the nose 80% or greater so that there is not so much weight on the bottom end.

yesterday, about 50 rounds of 32-20 with H-110 and 120 FNGC hardcast. Shot in the Marlin 1894 for 2200+ fps. Knocking over 7" square steel knockover targets that were 3/4" plate steel at 100 yards.
Lots of fun, no recoil and on the heels of the 7.62x39 in a levergun.

This weekend I finally got around to loading up a bunch of 44 American Bulldog... had to modify a special shell holder for the Lee hand prime tool I use... the shell holder didn't fit all that well on the tiny rim, & with the thin rims, a 44 special / mag shell holder wouldn't seat the primer fully... I'm now out of bullets, but settled on 2.5 grains of Trailboss with a 160 grain hard cast bullet... can't get out to my shooting range yet, with the mud & snow, but I got an 8" group in a snow bank, in the yard... not bad for 25ft with a belly gun with a pretty gritty feeling trigger
the shell holder I modified was an RCBS #38 fits 7mm & 30 caliber SSM & 455 Webley... I'm ordering a Hornady #51 which is listed for the 455 Webly only... hoping for a better fit... as it was, I had to drill out the center hole bigger for the plastic insert for the priming tool, of course they are hard, which left me "dremiling" the burrs out of the inside of the shell holder, & on the bottom... of course free hand, I bumped the edges, making the thin rim groove even smaller, & a sloppy shell holder, even sloppier... I had to take a changeable tip screw driver with the tip removed, that fit nicely into the case, & use it for a handle to hold the case in the best place in the shell holder to grasp... ( maybe took me 3 times longer to prime the 250 cases, but I got them done )
I think my Bulldog was made by Hopkins & Allen, & expect it was unfired when I bought it... gun & grips are perfect, nice original nickel everywhere, & a bright clean bore... I suspect Hopkins & Allen, since the gun only has a serial on the butt, say's American Bulldog on the top of the barrel, no other markings, but it has a loading gate... I've found Hopkins & Allen the main producer of early solid frames, with loading gates... I suspect it's American made, because of the bore & chamber sizes ( .430 bullets fit the gun nicely )... if anyone else has a suggestion, of the maker, please let me know

Loaded up 50 .257 Wby Mag rounds with some RL22 and IMR 4831. I'm doing some load development with 80 grain and 100 grain Barnes TTSX bullets, as well as some 117 grain Hornady SST's. I have come up with a sub MOA load with the 80 grain bullets, just trying to beat it and come up with some better loads for the heavier stuff. Anyone here have any proven loads for this "rat gun?"
If I find time later today, I have 50 cases prepped and primed of .475 Linebaugh brass. I am going to try working up a load with Hornady 400 grain XTP's over a charge of H110, IMR 4227 and Ramshot Enforcer. Anyone do any load development with these 400 grain XTP's?

Back to the loading bench with the Dillon 550 and components for my 45 ACP. Five primer tubes dumped their guts into the loader. Spending three 9 hour days a week on the range makes for a lot of time to burn powder. Good thing I am old and feeble. Currently limiting myself to 100 rounds a day. Hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder feel good.
