On deer size game Bill that hard bullet might work better than the soft alloy, would sure be a lot less destructive. I know thats what I'm going to be using this fall, same bullet but cast harder for muleys & Montana whitetails running about 1000-1050 fps. I won't need expansion. Heck, most of them will faint when they see it coming!

Yesterday, I powder coated my first cast bullets (thanks to Dick and Tank they came out perfect)! For my 45 ACP's I loaded a powder coated H&G #68 over 5.7-grins of 231. For my 3 3/4" Bisley I loaded a powder coated Lyman 429215 HP over 10.0-grains of Unique. Now if it would quit raining I could make a trip to the range.

Got a new to me mold. 225415, swore I would never cast for anything smaller than a .30. Then a 6.5 jumped and made take it home, then a 7mm. What a chore with a 1-c mold. I have cut sprues bigger than what I am casting ,lol. I trudged on with the learning curve of this little devil. Even the 1-c blocks I have to warm it with a propane torch in order for it to start dropping good bullets in a timely manner. Finally got a couple hundred cast up that passed inspection. Weight is an even 50 grains on the nose. Drop at around .2265 so that is good. This is a GC mold. OMG this is like trying to put socks on a cat. Got about 50 done. I kept looking at the powder coating and remembering what I have gleaned from Sixshot and Hoover on putting them in a tumbler. Couldn't do it. Did the shake and bake in the famous cool whip container. Not again. Then had to dig through all those air soft balls. Dumped them on the pan as the little oven was preheating. I was worried they would look bad laying on their sides but all is well as I was told it would be. Belled and primed 22 hornet brass. Got the powder measures set up and ready to go. This is my replacement for 22 /22 mag rifle. Got my dies set for this one and am going to try conventional lubed gas checked against the powder coated GC naked and see what happens. Using some SR7625 and some H4227 for fuel. Will see what it does as time allows. Jeff

dougader, mine from same mold are showing .478 top to bottom. I had to crank the heat up and add some more tin to get them to fill out perfectly. Most of the perfect ones are frosted. Could be the mold could be alloy differences too. Jeff

Jeff, curious as to why you couldn't tumble your 22 caliber slugs? When casting those little buggers I always had the best luck casting them from straight linotype of at least a high tin content & you might try pressure casting to get good fill out. That & casting fast is your best bet for 22's. I use to shoot that bullet a lot years ago & it was a dandy in the 218 Bee & Hornet. I always used a Lyman M die to expand the necks before seating, might even have used a little kapok on top, not sure but you might try it if you don't get good accuracy. Making good 22 cast slugs takes real practice, but Texas turkeys hated them! Doug, you might also have to pressure cast to get good fill out if your heat is high enough on your new mould. Casting with WW's or anything close to straight WW's means you usually have to run your furnace a little hotter to get good fill out, adding tin helps but you can usually get around it.

I was told the mould dropped undersized bullets when I picked it up, but thought I'd try powder coat with them and see what happens.
I adjusted the heat add I went and added wheel weight and some 50/50 bar solder too. I was too hot at one point and dropped the heat a touch. Fluxed a lot and got some good looking bullets with full, sharp edges.
I didn't expect too much, but we'll see how they coat, size and shoot. They run 400 grains, so I won't be shooting too many before I switch to a better mould. I'll be out of cheap alloy soon...

Dick, I still have enough in the cool whip tub to do a lot. Guess I could just strain the powder out and toss the balls now. I do have an extra bowl for my tumbler. Have another thumblers tumbler vibrating job I need to get a motor for. Guy gave me a nib harbor junk tumbler, it lasted about two weeks of daily use. That was my first shake and bake, dump. All turned out well as you and Jeff said it would.
On the hornet I am looking for 1050-1100 fps. Hoping it will act like a a CCI standard 22 rf. Ended up with a K hornet octagon barrel from a bunch of stuff I bought a couple of weeks ago. I really would like to try it but am afraid I may like it and have the savage rechambered. But dang it, I have too many irons in the fire now. My alloy for the 225415 is about 50-50 Lino and dead soft with some tin. Got a ten pound lee pot with that mold and a few other molds that I couldn't pass on for the money even if they are a 1-c. The guy had a a couple of molds for the lead soldiers! He wouldn't part with them as they were his grand dads. I have a few of my dads that are painted and cast from pewter, no mold though. I am going to talk to him soon again and see if I can at least cast up a few with the molds at his house. Jeff

I loaded up 50 rounds of 480 with the Mastercast 370 grain pc rnfp bullets, 14.1 grains Blue Dot, WLP primers.
Sized and primed 100 more cases last night. Have some H108 to try, and a pound of 2400. None of the HS6 or 4227 made popular by Hoover, Zeus and Sixshot.

I have reloaded absolutely nothing for a while. Last weekend my sweetie was out of town for a girls weekend. Of course, she left me a whole list of honey-do's. Like I can't think of anything I want to do on my own. So she gets back and every day, there is something she needs ME to do. 2 nights ago, she comes to bed, wakes me up and tells me (didn't ask me) to let all the dogs out so she could get ready for bed.
What?? You can't open the back door by yourself? You NEED me to do this for you??? From a dead sleep??? Wimmen... I'll never understand 'em.
