...The other things is those new factory grips. Man I think they're ugly but I REALLY liked how the felt and fit my hand. I also handled one yesterday. I agree with cas' above comment. In reference to Paul105's review, I didn't know the Hogue 500 (which I assume are x-frame grips) fit L-frame models. Interesting. The example that I handled seemed to have a smooth (but also a little heavy) trigger in both DA and SA. I want one but these days, that extra money is going for drag radials. Mark

The Concept is logical to me.. Never did like the forcing cone on the 44 Special L frame. I think I need one just for warmer 44 Special kind of loads. Bet we have one in the display case up front. Kind of surprises me that that the behind the counter guys haven't brought one back for me to see.

No, I want the straight barrel of the classic (original) Model 29, both aesthetically and as the final damper of the front sight and lock time and, finally, of recoil. What?? How could a heavier barrel profile possibly affect lock time?

I like my 629 4" and will not be buying the M69. However, I believe it is a decent concept and the execution looks good. If it were mine, in view of it's rather short cylinder, I would use my LBT WFN. The overall length is well within the requirements of the cylinder length using the crimp groove and it would give maximum terminal ballistics ("Smack") at reasonable ranges. Should make a dandy field pistol with the right bullet. No need to try to make it a "ring tailed terror" - anything over 1000 fps should work just fine with that LBT bullet. LBT's bullet mould runs those bullets like "shelling corn"...

carmoney.... meant to convey the dampening effect a heavier barrel exerts on holding the revolver still during hammer fall and during the bullet's journey from cartridge ignition to bullet exit. You are correct to infer hammer doesn't know whether the barrel is skinny or fat. David Bradshaw

Paul, Great report! I think they will sell a bunch in Alaska. A handy Powerful handgun is always appreciated there. As Axe stated a nice .44 special shooting gun that can step up when desired. Rob

Is it safe to assume there's a round butt hiding under the grips?

I picked mine up today from my FFL. I really like the feel of it - I am looking forward to some range time. I think I'm going to love it.
The only thing I wish it had is a CCH hammer and trigger.

Is it safe to assume there's a round butt hiding under the grips? Yes, it's a round butt. I've got a pair of Elk Antler RB grips kicking around that are looking for a new home. This Could be a good reason to pick up one of these 69's. The more I think about these... the more I like the idea of the 5 shot 44 mag L frame.

You guys are making me nuttier. Cant seem to find one of these to handle in northwest Wyoming or south central Montana. Seems to me, this is a handy little fivegun. Please tell/show us more paul105 and others who have bought them.

I handled one of these. As soon as I find one at a reasonable price, I will buy one.

Just a quick update.
I’ve had the M69 for about a month now. Have put close to 700 rounds thru it. About 70% of those were .44 Special level loads (240-260gr w/5.5 to 6.5gr HP38) and the rest have been mid-range to full house .44 Mags. Everything from 240s at 750fps to 325gr LWNGCs at a chronographed 1,182 fps. Yesterday, I finished up chronographing all loads that I might use in this gun.
240gr Horn JHP XTP at 1,323 fps (Hodgdon says 1,522 fps from 8.275” Bbl)
270gr Speer JSP at 1,153 fps (My 6” 629 gives 1,207 fps -- Hodgdon says 1,421 fps from 8.275” Bbl)
240gr lasercast CSWCs at 880 fps.
200gr Horn JHP XTPs at 1,236 fps.
For general use, the 6.5gr HP38/240-250gr load gets the nod – seated deep and crimped gently over front drive band. It is accurate, reasonably powerful and comfortable to shoot in quantity.
Recoil continues to surprise favorably – seems to recoil less than 629 Mtn Gun with same loads (can’t explain it other than it has a bit more weight forward and sits lower in the hand).
I have a scope base on order and will do some more accuracy testing when it arrives.
The more I shoot the m69, the better I like it – it just works for me – YMMV. In fact, I like it so much, I have a backup on order.
FWIW,
Paul

I appreciate the range reports Paul. Have decided I've gotta have one too.
