A GP100 in MC configuration in a 44 Spl would get my attention if it was tuned to MC specs. Better yet a Wiley Clapp 3" in 44 Spl, see it--buy it! I'm in Total Agreement with that last sentence! A 3" GP-44 Would Be the Cat's MEOW I'd be selling something to make it happen Hopefully in BLUE and a Patridge F-sight THAT'S interchangeable! Mmmmmm,,, sounds Good... BigBore44

(yup, I stole Rob's pics) I dunno, I think I'd rather have a S&W69. The GP's never done much for me.

Am happy with my M69. I wanted a big brother to my Bulldog. Something a real step up in performance yet easily packable. Certainally the GP44 will be more durable than the Bulldog but only still a 5-shot and only beats Bulldog performance when stepping beyond SAAMI spec loads, say ya gain 200 fps for it. The M69 can do that, and raise ya another 200fps. Better on the utility loads I have so much fun with, and use for, shot and rice loads too, due to the mag hulls. I am looking for at least a front sight swap, and am considering an express type rear blade too. Wife's J-frame 22 has an F/O front and express blade rear that I like for what use this gun will see. If the Ruger had come out first..I'd have nabbed one and been happy too I think.

Just in from throwing some break-in easy shooting loads down range. I seated some of the 225gr Speer JHP's and some 200gr XTP's on a min charge of of 10grs of CFE Pistol. Just smacking steel and shooting at floating chunks of ice on the river. Nobody lives beyond for a couple of miles and several tree lines and woodlots to get thru, so.. This gun can shoot. A heavy for caliber subsonic load will be the end goal at some point.

I continue to be impressed with my first S&W. Well, the wife has a J-frame 22. I've mentioned earlier in this thread, about someone earlier yet, commenting on that if FA made a double-action, the M69 would be it. I still agree with that comment. This is a finer piece than my Bulldog, or the Colt PP, or most of the other handguns here. Ya know how when you are car shopping and you more than gently close the door and wait to hear...just the right sound of solidness. The M69 has that. Enjoy the heck outta yours !

I really love Ruger's but I think I am going with the 69...I have wanted a more portable .44 for a while and have really been thinking hard about these two guns for the past few days. In the end, I just like having the extra umph of the .44 Mag without having to worry about hot rodding the .44 spl. This will only be my second Smith revolver, so I do have some trepidations. Now I just need to get one coming my way.

Truly, a horrible choice to have to make ! Your intended usage has to be defined before you choose. Here, field carry would still have tilted it in favor of the M69. I have the Bulldog 44spec for urban varmints and house carry. Of course, BOTH is the best option..sigh.. Am now tumbling brass for next batch of 44mag ammo, trying to decide on a front sight upgrade, or a set with an express rear blade. Hmmnnn. Where to find a V-notch rear blade thats compatable, one with a white verticle line ? Or just go with an XS set..more sighs..

I have a set on my Glock 23 and like them really good. QUICK target acquisition and still accurate for punching paper once you figure out the sight picture. I'm kinda having thoughts about the 69 again now to. I like the idea it can use full house 44 mags, unlike the GP-44 BUT, I like the grip on the GP 100/GP44 Best of all wheelguns! Bulasteve...I do feel fortunate to be able to get a new gun! I may go for the Ruger down the line, but you are right about choosing the cartridge first. The .44 Mag is really what I need in this gun. Although I could make the .44 Spl work there is really no reason why with the 69 available. I will primarily use this one for camping, dogs over hogs hunting, and road tripping through UT, WY, and MT. I do love the .44 Spl but the .44 Mag can handle the upper end stuff with no worries. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread; it was very informative! I have one inbound and will post a report when I get a chance to shoot it.

Ecvmatt, I commented that usage needs to be defined first. If that dictates a need for more cartridge..a bit longer barrel. Hence I'm happy with my choice. Luck.

Yes it is. With it's longer barrel it will not reliably stay in my fleece vest pocket well. That role still goes to the 3" Bulldog. Once real pants w/belt go on, so does the M69. Grabbed another lb of CFE Pistol and a box of 240gr XTP's yesterday on the way to work.

Great. I'm sure you probably seen I'm signed up for getting a GP-44 at my local pushers. I started to think about canceling and going with the 69 so I could use mags BUT, I've decided to stick to my guns and get the GP-44. It'll do just what I want and, if'n I need more gun I've got others to fill that bill... BigBore44
