snyd.... believe I'll leave 355 grain forty-fives at 1,300 fps to grapplers such as Max, Lee, and yourself. You are so close to the prototypical .45-70 of 400 grains at 1,300 fps from a rifle that the revolver's grip becomes just as personal as the individual grasping it. I, for one, do not want the punishment of rocks & dynamite loads transmitted through the steel hump of a double action into the base of my thumb. My wrestling days are over.
Perhaps a person starting out fresh should consider a Super Redhawk in .454 Casull. Shorten the barrel to 4 or 5 inches, screw on the sight, deep-seat bullets in .454 brass, and take advantage of the Super Redhawk grip possibilities. David Bradshaw

Sorry for the sidetrack, but my wife asked what I was reading and I said, "More on Redhawks" and thinking it was a sports team, she said..."What'd they do now?"

A six shot Howdah, a thoroughly modern Dragoon, with aesthetics that are unique but make perfect sense when you think of what this piece can do and the fiery violence it can contain. I don't know if I can continue to live without one, it surely could replace the 308.

The Redhawk was something I didn't know I wanted until this thread! Being a die-hard S&W guy I never paid much attention to the tank-like Ruger DAs but that is changing and one of those 4" .45's is really looking good to me but I'd have to handle one one first to see if it even fits me...

The 4-inch .45 is kinda' special IMO. Mine was converted to .454 and it was a great little revolver. Alas, it is no longer in my possession.

Handled a few Redhawks recently and just couldn't make myself love them no matter how hard I tried. Pulled the trigger today on a Super Redhawk in .44 Mag with the intention of having the barrel cut down to 5 or 5.5 inches. Anyone have a gunsmith in MN, IA, ND, SD of WI they'd suggest I utilize to do the work? (Sorry for the hijack!)
Thanks,
John

Sarge...now THAT is a gun!
Just wanted to add that I've recently become enamored with the 2.75 inch round butt Redhawk. That thing's a shooter (especially with hot .44 Specials; 240-gr Magnums aren't bad, either...at least compared to my .454 Alaskan). Think I'm gonna send this to Gemini Custom, who did an amazing job on my Wiley Clapp GP-100. Just came back from a long backcountry hike in the snow with my Sweetie and Newt the beagle. The little Redhawk was a comforting presence, especially after passing a couple of pilgrims Newt definitely didn't like...
Been using a Ted Blocker Field Holster they cooked up for me.
Gonna need some decent grips, too!
And David Bradshaw, that was a hysterical story!

Mbaneacp, are you refering to the Talo "Kodiak Backpacker"? I oredered one on Saturday and can't wait. I'll probably shoot mostly specials with it since a spinal chord injury left my left hand almost useless and I haven't had much luck switching to the right. How is the grip and anything I should know about a specific hold? This will be my first Redhawk and may be the start of a new addiction since I can't stop looking at pictures of them.

I saw something about a 2.5" Redhawk coming but there was nothing on the Ruger website
