Snyd - You have one that must be about 2 years in the making at this point. Any word on when it will be in your hands?

thought I'd throw up this pair of cartridge converted Pietta 51 Navies, & the specifics... They started out at Cabelas & came to me on sale, & with a coupon, out the door at $159.00 each... design work, & light finishing done by me, machining work done by my retired machinist buddy & or I on his equipment in his home shop... they are now chambered in 38 Long Colt... the barrels were relined with TJ's hammer forged barrel liners, to better shoot .357" bullets, & cut to 4.5" in length... the shortened barrels were dovetailed, & brass sights were ordered from Track of the Wolf, the dovetail was thinned down slightly & then they were filed to fit the length of the barrel slot, & to height, as the guns were sighted in... I wanted to keep the loading levers for that traditional look... they would be fully functional, but the end of the lever is screwed to the barrel... in order to get the loading lever tight against the barrel, the pivot point was moved & re-drilled, to eliminate about an 1/8" gap between the bottom of the barrel & the loading lever, & the end of the load levers were tapered to facilitate smooth holstering... the screwed loading lever was done to keep Walker style wardrobe malfunctions from occurring... the cylinders & recoil shields are fire blued modern steel, tool steel hands & cylinder stops were used to replace the factory black powder pieces... we chose to just cut a loading groove rather than adding a loading gate, the opened up groove & reshaped end of the shortened loading levers was just fire blued, with a torch, since these will be a wear areas... the cylinders index perfectly so the cartridges don't fall out, & empty cases are easily extracted via thumb nail, or screw knife by use of the 1/4 moon cuts outside each chamber... we actually short chambered the cylinder... after looking at the SAMMI chamber drawings & deciding that a 38 Special could fit in a 38 Long Colt SAMMI chamber, & since we didn't strengthen the main portion of the guns ( the cylinders are plenty tough, & could handle 357 magnum ) the chamber was cut short to just fit the Starline 38 Long Colt cases... just so someone long after I'm gone, doesn't stuff a cylinder full of +P 38 Special into one of them... I'm thinking about polishing off the stampings on the barrels, & having those re-blued & while that's being done, I'll have the grip frame corner stamped 38 Cal. ala Colt style... they are amazing to shoot, & are quickly becoming a pair of my favorites...

I had never seen this thread before today...just BEAUTIFUL guns...funny but didn't see any custom Colts... Builder: David Clements Year: 2013/14 Base Gun: USFA Shooting Master .357 Magnum 7.5" barrel New Caliber: .41 Special New Barrel Length: 5.5" New Grips: Walnut by Chisel & Plane Rear Sight: Original USFA adaptation of the early Colt ACE sight Front Sight: Copy of USFA/Colt Flat Top Target with Keith holdover bar Comments: Original barrel and cylinder were saved and the gun can be converted back to original. Builder: Garry Reeder Custom Guns Year: 2000/2001 Base Gun: Ruger Super Blackhawk stainless .44 Magnum 7.5" barrel New Caliber: .41 Magnum/.41 GNR Barrel Length: 5.5" New Grip: Reeder Gunfighter in black Micarta Rear Sight: Came with stock Ruger rear with V, changed to One Ragged Hole aperture. Final change to Bowen rear with w/o. Front sight: Freedom Arms base with brass bead. Changed to green FO for hunting. Comments: This was built as a duplicate of the Reeder Long Colt Hunter but in a 5 shot .41 Magnum. Barrel is marked Ultimate .41 Hunter as it was the combination of Reeder's Ultimate .41 and the Long Colt Hunter and is probably the only one so marked. The .41 Magnum cylinder is engraved with Elmer Keith and the head of a bear, Skeeter Skelton and the picture of a javalina, and Bill Jordan with the head of a wolf. The .41 GNR cylinder (.44 Magnum necked down to .41) is engraved with Big Horn, Dall and Stone sheep. One change that may come is having the .41 GNR cylinder rechambered for .410 GNR which is based on the .454 case.

Here's a custom 2nd gen Colt. Linebaugh oversized toolsteel 6 shot cylinder in 45 colt made in the mid 80's. Intended for 6 shot Ruger loads, say 325s at 1300+. Note the bolt notches, approximately 1/2 the with of a standard Colt notch
