Less than 5 days till squirrel season starts here. Who is going to be hunting with a rimfire handgun? What are you shooting and what ammo are you using? Posted this on another forum already, but respect the opinions of the members here to pass up a chance to learn something

I use my MKII Government model with CCI mini mags. Or one on my Single Sixes with Winchester Super X 22 mags. I like to hunt squirrels every fall. Our season doesn't open till sept 1st but I don't really hunt them till mid October.

I have a 10" barreled Browning Buckmark pistol in 22 LR, which sports a 4x scope. By good fortune, it will put 10 CCI Stingers into an inch at 50 yards, and what they will do to a squirrel has to be seen to be believed!

Got a Ruger Gov. Target model myself... old tube dot sight on it ( the old Tasco pro points ) probably my most accurate of my 22 Handguns...
got / had a Single 10, couldn't find anything mine liked, so I ended up re-chambering mine into an 8 shot 257 caliber
Squirrel hunting is something I liked to do as a kid, I've been building squirrel habitat around our farm, hopefully ( as often when we get older, we really like doing the hobbies we had as a kid ) I'll have a good place to hunt in the next 10 years or so... right now I'm in a battle with those pesky little red pine squirrels, they run off the bigger greys, & the lil reds aren't much good for anything but cat food... I mostly use a 17 Mach 2 ( the 22 LR case necked down to 17 caliber ) rifle I built on them, fast little laser, with little to no ricochet issues for using around the farm site

Good to hear what you guys are shooting. S & W Mod. 17 is my main side arm in the war against the little grey ghosts. Made it a goal a couple years ago to try to harvest a squirrel with every rim fire handgun I own. Made it thru all the Smith's except a old Mod.34. Going to start working on Ruger Single actions and my Semi Auto rim fires this year. I use Winchester Power Points in almost all rim fire handguns. Still able to use iron sights on my guns but thinking about putting a red dot on a S & W Mod. 41. Going to check zeros on handguns and rim fire rifles today (I hope) Good luck with everyone's hunting !!!

It's seems to be the makings of an incredibly good year by me. The oak-hickory masting is heading for a five year record and I will be ready. I have patiently put thousands of rounds through a S&W 17-8 in the past year and I am confident out to 25y for squirrel and maybe 50y for bunnies. I'll be using plain ol' CCI Blazer...

I'll be draggin my trusty Marlin 60 w/Weaver 2.5-7x28 out to the woods, along with my Single Ten. Gonna wait till after the rut, though, as the squirrels are still aggravating & EVERYWHERE. Closer to the end of deer season you get down here, the scarcer the tree rats become & my daughter's been pestering me from some squirrel stew.

Our squirrel season doesn't start for a few more months. However, I usually use my Ruger MKII Competition Target slabside. My friend uses his early S&W M-17. He's had his for close to 30 yrs now. He's deadly with it. I will also be known to tote a Ruger Single-Six a bit as well.
