Easy now, I'm talkin' about guns here.
I once handled a 5.5" FA 97 in 45 Colt with a rounded butt at a gunshop and have to say I've never had a gun fit my hand better. Never had a chance to fire one, though.
Anyone here have a 97 with a rounded butt? Silly question I'm sure. How do you like the way it feels when shooting? It fits my hand well holding it, but it may not be so good shooting. It may be, though. Does this mod lend itself better to shorter bbl guns or maybe longer ones too?
I'm considering a 97 in 41 mag with or without this feature possibly the 7.5" version. Just searching for any input/advise. Thanks.

However I do prefer grip panels that are less flared than most factory versions. Joe

Never played with a Frredom Arms, but I currently have a Vaquero project in the works that will have a rounded XR3 brassie so I'll let you know what I think of it.

Sixshot, Hidestretcher and I tested 2 Mdl.83 4 3/4" .454's side by side about 6 weeks ago: Bob Baker's round butt vs. my square butt, same ammo etc. Sixshot and I agreed that the square butt was much more comfortable for us. Hidestretcher could tell little difference between the two.

Groo here I found the round but [birdshead or thunderer ] best on short barrels. The more standard grip gives you more area at the bottom to hold the weight of a longer barrel. Most grips are too wide at the bottom [flared] and rounding at this point helps.

Although I liked the way it felt in my hand, I was unsure if I'd like the way it felt while shooting. Being it's only a 41, I'm more concerned about it feeling weird than hurting. Groo, I can see where it would be more appropriate with short bbls. I'm probably over-thinking again....

I have a Reeder with a Gunfighter style grip that is similar and I like it alot. I've handled a FA with one but never shot it...the owner says he likes it, it's a .475.

I stumbled into a 4 inch FA 83 in 500WE a while back... It is very comfortable with full cases of H110 and 440 WFNs. Take note that the round butt on the FA isn't anything like a birdshead... It is simply the corner of the butt rounded off... I have pics I will try to post later today... For me the round butt is more appropriate for the short barrel guns. For the longer barrel guns I like something to fill the space at the heel of my hand. Don't know about Reeder's "gunfighter" grip but I'll have an opinion next week when the Reeder 500L arrives....

You know what they say about a picture being worth a 1000 words.... Beware that cat... That is Maxine... She is the very definition of a cat... Unlike her stablemate Kissy who, if you wrote down all his mannerisms and decided if he was a cat or dog, would be called a dog..

Awesome pics. Thanks Axe. It may not look like much of a difference, but the feel to me was like night and day. Maybe it's just my eyes, but it looks like the grip panels on the reg gripped one look a bit thicker, too.
