Surely you don't want me to measure? ;D ;D ;D I'd shoot them side by side but the comparison would be moot.... One is a 7.5 inch 475 while the other is a 4 inch 500WE....

The grip frames on the New Vaqueros don't really allow much rounding. However, I find that rounding them almost to the divot at the heel of the frame is just about perfect for me. It makes the heel fit perfectly in my hand. Subtle rounding is barely discernable on my "working" gun at the top:

Was looking for something totally OT when I found this. As they say, a couple of pics are worth a zillion words. Pete

The birdshead fit ME best . The 7 1/2 bottom right is 2nd . The Vaquero is 3rd and the Bisley and SBH square guard I can't shoot at all . I like the little finger under grip to control the roll

I couldn't decide between a Bisley or Birdhead gripframe - so I went with a compromise ;D

Hey Ravenwolf please tell us a little about those pieces of steel, I really like the tomahawk. Nice workmanship on both. Sorry if I am hijacking the thread but those are really nice.

I've rounded 3 of my Rugers and love them. Took my SBH, rounded the trigger guard and the grip frame, and made it from a finger banging piece into a sweet shooting gun, even with heavy loads.

COR, thanks for the kind words. The Tomahawk and Bowie were made by J. Neilson of Mountain Hollow. I have 5 knives made by him. These two were ideas that I had and he built in collaboration with me. The Bowie came about after seeing a ring guard bowie in an old picture book on the western frontier. The poll hawk he came up with when I enquired about having a lightweight packing hawk that could be used for both pounding in stakes and splitting kindling. The balance is such that it could be thrown (if not for the fancy haft). I also have a skinning knife, neck knife that I actually use in my duties in the fire/rescue field, and a pairing knife that I had made for my wife. All and all I highly recommend his work. Additionally; his wife Tess makes all the sheaths for the blades. Check out his site, just google mountain hollow forge....RW

Ravenwolf You won't believe this but I actually traded someone a grip frame for a knife J. Nielson made from 1/2 a horseshoe. The sheath is very nice too and it also bears a makers mark. That's interesting about his wife making the sheaths. I haven't researched him much more than to find out he lived in Northeastern Pa in a town called Wyaluising (I think I spelled that right). I'll get a pic of it. It even came in a neat little zippered case. Thanks for the info. That tomahawk is really neat!
