I would have loved to have found a Double Eagle in 44 Special or 4 Colt before they closed the doors.

Glad I got my hands on at least one. Thinking about possibly adding another but the stars will need to be aligned to find a nice one at a decent price.
Not to steer this thread but I wish someone else would take the USFA torch and run with it... If not with USFA machinery given its uncertain whereabouts, then uberti to ship Turnbull parts. If Mr. Turnbull could offer something similar to the open range with hand-selected and finished Italian parts, I'd definitely consider one under $1200. I may be wrong but believe EMF offers finishing by Turnbull but uncertain of the QC and price associated with the service.

I thought for sure that Turnbull would take over that corner of the market but all they did was sell off all the old stock of parts.

Would have been a no-brainer for him I'm sure. You would think it wouldn't be too difficult to offer just a few models as to not have too many chickens in one pot and offer them at prices lesser than Colt. Certainly is a case-study in supply/demand and management especially considering their quality compared to Colt. Wish I were made of money... I'd try to find the tools, write a check, then hire a few competent smiths just to keep me barely in the black and them more than happy (as a hobby mostly) in order to support our SA addictions.

I think that's the problem, that they were selling for less than they should have. By undercutting Colt, I'd bet the farm they were losing money on every gun. Probably the worst on their standard single action, which was the most comparable to a standard Colt SAA. Before the price hike a couple years ago, they were $400 less than a new Colt.

The supply of "factory fresh" Colts seems to be nonexistent so it would seem the demand is there - even at prices above Colt - so long as it's managed properly. I haven't seen a '12 or '13 SAA yet. I saw a '11 in pictures once but it was from the original owner. The only bnib colt I've seen is a new New Frontier.
As a long time collector of watches there's a company (which shall remain nameless) that makes homage pieces based on classic Rolex, Omega, Benrus, etc. They've been run worse than USFA ever was in that they never meet deadlines (in some cases 4yrs and going for some projects with no ETA) and generally have nothing available for sale. What's baffling is that the quality doesn't hold a candle to the originals and yet their customer base is vast and loyal. We're talking drink the koolaid loyal... While the price for the original is, in most cases as with Rolex, far greater if you were to find an orignal, were not talking chump change at around $1850+ for their offerings. But for some of their homages (early omega seamasters and benrus military watches) the price for the original is comparable and still possible to find in great working order. And yet their customer base would rather wait indefinitely for something that may never happen. All have placed deposits.
All I can do is scratch my head when I read about USFA in comparison. The exception being that they were making a product arguably better than Colt whereas this watch company has not been able to come close to offering a superior product.

Alex Hamilton at one time was the self described largest distributor to the me's and you's for USFA. I called him when the reality was real and asked him "Why?". He stated that they were selling fifteen hundred dollar revolvers for eight hundred and twenty five hundred dollar guns for fifteen. Add the lightnings, four gun sets, limiteds, etc...
Alex still has a LOT of USFA parts but alas, no Sparrowhawk rear sights.

Thinking about grabbing a .45acp cylinder from Alex before it's too late... I missed USFA in its prime but don't want to miss that ship. If I don't opt to fit immediately at least ill have it in supply.
