Please don't flame me for this. I love the M1A. I love the history of it, I love the looks of it, I love the .308 so much more than the .223.
That being said, I can't get over the initial price tag for a gun that holds 2-3 MOA, or if you are one of the lucky ones 1-2. I'm not talking the super match, I mean the standard or loaded. I have a hard time getting past a $1400 rifle that won't shoot 1 MOA out of the box. I know all the arguments for why it cost what it cost. It still bothers me. I like being the weak link in the accuracy equation. I really love accurate guns. With THAT being said, I will still buy one someday.
Beautiful rifles guys. When I get mine it will be a scout squad with nice wood.

Yep, an off the rack AR will shoot the pants off of almost any M1A of similar grade, no question. It takes a Super Match to catch up with a good shooting rack grade AR. My Springfield Super Match will shoot sub half MOA; have over 2K in it. My rack grade Armalite M15A2 shoots half MOA for $900 and the only thing I did to it was put a match trigger group in it. I love both rifles and will keep both of these, but there is no doubt the M1A takes a lot more work to make it shoot well.

I bought a Chinese M1A during the Clinton regime & it was a 3"+ rifle until I went through the accurizing routine, best I could. It took me almost 1000 rounds to get it under 2" at 100 yards. Still, it looked good with the black laminated stock. Eventually sold it and got a DPMS .308 during the early part of the Obama debacle. It shoots a bit under 1" up to 1.5" at 100 for under $1000. Having said that, it is still a clunky AR type rifle but I'm not likely to spend twice as much for a rifle that shoots worse than my DPMS even though the M1A is lots easier on the eyes.
