Having watched with horror the events in Boston last evening, several things occurred to me.
Do you realize that basic components to make improvised explosive devices are readily available on the open market and that their sale and transfer is generally uncontrolled, and at present uncontrollable? And the formulas, instructions and recipes for construction of these devices are widely available on the internet!
Are you aware that TracFones can be used as remote detonation devices and can be purchased at virtually any retail outlet without user identification, then activated online with a pre-paid credit card, also available without providing user identification?
Did you know that ball bearings, nails, screws and similarly sharp metal objects can be purchased in bulk from various manufacturers around the country and even ordered in large quantity online (using the aforementioned pre-paid credit card), to be delivered anywhere?
All of these components of terror can then easily be carried and transported among the unwary populace in an opaque backpack, designed to conceal the contents.
We must do something.
I hope you’ll join me in contacting your congressional representatives and the White House and urging them to pass common sense legislation to require positive identification and background checks for the purchase of any and all of these materials that can be used to construct an improvised explosive device. In addition, backpacks must all be constructed of transparent materials, so that everyone can see what potential terrorists might be carrying. We must do this for the children. Surely, if we could save the life of one child, it would all be worth it.

It may sound silly to many of us, but don't be surprised if we see calls for things equally as silly and ineffective as a result of this.

The authorities need to establish bomb-free safe zones.

Personally I think we should ban all public gatherings. Every one just stay home and hide in the basement.

You think that's funny, but the liberals who might see that will take it as a really good and serious idea. They don't need any more help in coming up with !@#$.
Don't encourage them!

Can Obama's buddy and known murder bomber Bill Ayers account for his time just before this happened...

OK, I can't fool you guys... you can tell when when I'm being facetious, can't you?
Seriously, you don't have to worry about me giving the liberals any ideas they didn't already have. I think I can say with confidence that you won't hear a thing about any legislation to restrict sales of TracFones, bulk sales of ball bearings, opaque backpacks, or what have you. Nor sir, that wouldn't make sense, and it won't even be suggested.
They've already decided the blame for Boston must be with us, the dastardly right wingers. Within the mainstream media, note Chris Matthews' and Diane Sawyer's comments from yesterday evening.

I have to say, guys, this thread is in really poor taste.
This was an attack on American citizens in a major American city. I know we are all pissed about the gun control stuff but this is not appropriate event to parody the idiotic politics.
I grieve for those that died and were injured yesterday, exercising other constitutional rights.
I hope they find the a**hole quickly.

I sincerely apologize to any who are offended by this facetious post.
Even in the midst of this terrible event, at a time when all our hearts go out to the families of those who have seen loved ones senselessly murdered in one of our iconic cities, I continue to believe the hypocrisy of our political class and news media is entirely relevant, and therefore bears scrutiny and criticism.
I share the hope that the perpetrator of this horrible act, whatever his or her political leanings or nationality may be, is apprehended swiftly and prosecuted to the full extent of the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

There is a new phrase I don't like being used when referring to this attack:
Patriot Group
What is a patriot?
Why are they referring to domestic terrorists as patriots?
Why are they trying to make people associate patriots with terroism?

You may recall that early on it was suspected a third bomb, or an incendiary device, had been detonated at the JFK Library in Boston. This was proven to be an unrelated event. Nevertheless, MSNBC commentator Chris Matthews made the following statement:
“I was just thinking, again, it’s early; it’s an early situation, but going after the Kennedy Library, not something at Bunker Hill, not something from the freedom trail or anything that kind of historic, but a modern political figure of the Democratic Party,” he said “Does that tell you anything?”

Yes, it tells me Chris Matthew is another in a long line of idiots at NBC. But you knew that.

I *get* the facetious nature of the origanal post, but let me tell ya, as a Mass native, and someone who works regularly in the exact area where the bombs went off... this is no joking matter. Thankfully neither myself nor any of my co-workers were working in the area at the time, although I had been within a mile of that sight earlier in the morning and smack dab in the middle of where the carnage was Friday afternoon. I was in town today, and seeing Boylston Street blocked off by the National Guard a bit surreal.
I think we all understand that evil people will do bad things with whatever they can get their hands on. Today isn't about politics. Today is about those lost and maimed as those people who did what they could at the scene to help.
I don't want to sound like I'm pissing on your parade here, but this is serious stuff to those of us that live and work around Boston.

When things like this happen, 9-11, Sandy Hook, Ft. Hood, etc, etc, they dont just happen to those that live nearby. They happen to all of us who are American and we are free to comment on them however we choose. It does not mean we dont feel the same as those who live there. I cried at the table when I heard about Sandy Hook and all those children dead. And I live over 3000 miles away. As a father of two kids, both nearly grown I am able to empathize with the parents of the dead children, just as we all are able to empathize with the victims of the Boston bombing. In short these events affect us all, not just the locals.
