Bigbore, I too have tried the 4227 with my .32's. I got hooked on 4227 in the 357max. I now try it in most all calibers for a test. Wanna share your 4227 data and results as well? Anxiously awaiting what you find for either powder. Prescut My only 32H&R is a 9-1/2" barrel SSM. I'll chronograph both 4227 and #9 this weekend. Might also check my wadcutter/Universal load while I have it out. Usually if it's accurate I don't care how fast it's moving as long as it hits and fully penetrates pests.

BigBore5, I am anxiously awaiting your results. You are an awesome member of a phenomenal group of folks on this site. Your reference to Universal was interesting as I don't read much about it. I have a few pounds I haven't found a use for yet. This is getting really interesting.
pacecars, I have been shooting my new to me SW 16-4; but if you are looking for load data, my experience is limited as yet. Anything in particular you are looking for?

This thread is 10 years old now and still going strong! So much good info…much of which you provided us with! And I’m still scheming and scamming about the ultimate Single 7! I’m wanting a Ronnie Wells aluminum PJ gripframe and a full window length cylinder with a 7 1/2” barrel….

So much good info…much of which you provided us with! And I’m still scheming and scamming about the ultimate Single 7! I’m wanting a Ronnie Wells aluminum PJ gripframe and a full window length cylinder with a 7 1/2” barrel…. And I'm think it would be cool to screw on a 10.5" to 12" pipe on my 327 Blackhawk. Just got finished, with the exception of shortening my ejector rod housing, fixing my fixed sight SS. The factory cylinder gap was .013"! Now it's a nice .002". Only bullets I have on hand are some Missouri 100 gr RNFP's. They oughtta do nicely though. Thinking of Power Pistol as a propellant. If I recall, Brian Pearce suggests from 4.0 to 5.0 grains. Wanna keep these loads just sub-sonic out of the 5.5" barrel.

I use Universal alot. Unique almost never.
Universal provides equal performance to Unique, but seems cleaner.

JFS shout-out. For those in love with the long barrel, like me; you wouldn't believe what a fellow member here, jfs, did for me. We were PM'ing about load data for .32 using #9 powder and what mounts were best for the DW 32H&Rmag. I am a huge Dan Wesson fan after acquiring a couple of their 357 Super Mags (aka Maximums). Then I was bit by the .32 bug. I didn't believe I would be able to ever own a DW in .32, because I never even read about them; and then I see 2 within months and scooped them up. Then yesterday, JFS PM'd me about CZ/DW selling a 10" barrel addition for their 32H&Rmag revolvers. I was floored. I never even dreamed I would acquire a 32H&Rmag from Dan Wesson, but I never even dared to dream about a 10" barrel. The DW allows me to switch barrels in under 2 minutes! It was pricey, but when an eagle feather floats down from the sky, you grab it. My head was spinning JFS then confirmed that my DW 32-20 would also accept that new 10" barrel. I sat in disbelief that it took me as long as it did to figure that out. I don't recall doing anything to deserve such luck. But I'll take it. Thanks again to JFS for setting my feet on that path. Prescut If you like/have a DW .32, they might still have one left?

I didn't know that DW made a 32-20.

bigbore5,
Yep, DW did make a VERY few .32's in 32-20 WCF and the .32H&Rmagnum.
I saw our own John Taffin has several DW .32's. He is the big dog in that he had one turned into a 327FederalMagnum. That's the only one I've ever heard even existed.
That's like seeing BigFoot riding a Unicorn.
Prescut I'm going to try that Universal powder again. Thanks.

Okay. Y'all asked for it so it's coming.
Today I prepped and loaded 50 rounds each of 32 H&R to compare #9 and H-110 head to head in as even a comparison as possible.
First the brass. I selected new 100 Starline cases that were within +/-1gr of my established baseline weight after trimming to 1.075". Primer pockets were uniformed with a Lyman tool. Flash holes were deburred with a piloted Redding tool. Inside reaming was with a Lyman VLD hand tool. Outside reaming was also by hand with a Lyman tool. A Hornady hand prime tool was used to seat the WSPM primers. Every case is as consistent as I can get it.
The chosen bullet was the RCBS 32-98 SWC. Chosen because it is a very common bullet for guys on here and I don't shoot jacketed. Bullets that weighed within 1gr of each other and show no flaws were sorted out from a batch cast in February from Rotometals Certified hardball alloy. Sizing to 0.3125 was on a Lyman 450 with RCBS dies. Lube is LBT blue soft. I passed each bullet in and out of the die twice to insure full grease grooves and for any spring back of the bullet. I then verified every single ones diameter and concentricity. Again everything is as perfect as I have ever made.
Each load was thrown light then trickled up to weight. Powder was weighed on certified accurate to+/-.005gr American Scientific scales. 10.0grs #9 and 11.8grs H110.
Bullets where then seated using a Lee seating die with a custom stem matching the nose profile of the bullet to an oal of 1.4100" +/-.0005. Crimping was in a Lee factory crimp die. I passed it in and out of the die twice, achieving a very consistent crimp of 0.328" best I can measure with a blade micrometer.
This is seriously match grade ammo. Thr reason for taking the time to get everything so consistent is to show the only difference is in the powder itself.
Chronographing tomorrow if weather permits.

That is high level handloading and should provide excellent results. Can't wait to see how your premium handloads shoot.

That is high level handloading and should provide excellent results. Can't wait to see how your premium handloads shoot. I will have velocity data, but accuracy will not be up to potential yet. The second round tests will be after Fermin does the throats. They slug between .311-312" now. After he works on them I'll polish out a die to match. The third round will be after I fire lap the barrel.

Here's what I got:
Ruger SSM 9-1/2" RCBS 32-98SWC WSPM primers Starline 32 H&R mag brass (new) 84°, 92% humidity
#9 powder, 10.0gr
1522 1551 1534 1529 1533 1512
Avg= 1530fps ES= 39fps
H110, 11.8gr
1478 1504 1466 1497 1456 1473
Avg= 1479fps ES= 48fps.
A word of note. The #9 load is max in my gun. Never try either of these loads in anything not as strong as a Single Six Magnum. Reduce loads and work up slowly.
I usually use a load of 10grs 4227 with this bullet for 1365fps. Gotta love the longer barrels for velocity.
