I see them on GB all the time; mostly in 44 mag and 45 Colt, but sometimes in 41 mag, too.

Got mine in early '93 and it wears Eagle Secret Service zebrawoods. Wish I had one in any other caliber, too, as we have a "no .44 Magnum" policy for off-duty weapons. Too cheap to pay the money for a Tennessee carry permit just so I can pack a .44 on my own time.
It is a great "tractor" gun, though.

Would stokin it with .44 special still be against dept. policy?

.41 Special, converted from a S&W 686....with Craig Spegel grips & Lobo Gunleather. Still doing some load development in between our cycle of snow drifts and mud bogs. So far, it's shooting 2.5 - 3" at 25 yards & I'm happy, but still looking. I don't feel the "V & Big Dot" are quite my preference like I thought they'd be. While not technically a "Mountain Gun", it is in fact a great Gun in the Mountains...My son carrying his S&W 25-5 in a Simply Rugged pancake, next to a full compliment of 7x57's on our first elk hunt together this past fall. This 25-5 was my father's, then my first revolver, now my sons. MadBadger

That's a nice setup you've got there - and enjoying it with your son is even nicer!

Would stokin it with .44 special still be against dept. policy? I believe so, they only care what's on the bbl. If anyone would get jammed up over it, it would be me! Where are you in mid-state? Saw another guy just a minute ago with Middle Tenn. and WickerBill is in T-homa. Right now it's stoked with some HSM 240 SWCs at about 1,100 fps for home defense...sitting in an old S&W holster I polished up with Meguiar's Auto Leather juice. Lookin' Ol' School Nasty.

Is Smith still making the mountain gun? Cabelas has new ones in blue or stainless, they are marked OUTFITTER on the frame and MOUNTAIN GUN on the barrel. www.cabelas.com/p-0076868217480a.shtml
