Its got a long way to go yet. We are having trouble getting the proper cutter for the rear sight install. Ray says he may just have to make one. The most troublesome part of this project is going to be the stocks. Even for Henry, it doesnt look like a easy project.

Worked up a load this weekend for busting bunnies. THE HEMATOMA SPECIAL 200 gr SWC over 3 gr of Unique going 365 fps with a 10 yard zero

Careful with those "bunny fart" loads. They are fun, but if there's anything at all behind your target that is hard or elastic (like a used tire) those bullets will bounce right back at you! My gf at the time wore a fat lip for awhile because of a 38 special swc with 2 grains W231.

How can you get reliable loads of 3gr Unique and 200gr bullet? I can get it to burn fairly consistent at 5gr Unique but any less and I get a lot of unburned powder and some squib loads.

I dunno. I even shot 2.4 gr of Unique with the same 200 gr bullet but the sound was too "pffffffffft" - not confidence inducing. I also shot 250 gr Laser cast RN over 3 gr of Unique BTW. I do get some unburned powder too.

I picked up this 1917 a few months back. It needs a little more work done to it but is a decent shooter. The sights were added in the early 70s.

I've got a couple boxes of that WWI GI .45. The almost 100 year old brass cases and CuNi bullets still look brand spanking new...in fact, it still looks newer than the factory stuff I just bought at WalMart.

I cast a mess of 200 gr FP from a 6 cavity Lee mold a couple of weeks ago. The range scrap alloy I used is about 10 BHN or so from my fingernail - softer than the 200 gr LaserCast stuff I was launching for bunnies (a couple of posts above). I LLA'd them and loaded them backwards. Why? I just like to mess around with stuff The main reason is I wanted to see if I could load without special handloading tools. I loaded these with an Allen wrench/nut+bolt = decapper/capper setup over 3 gr of Unique and simply smacked the bullets in with a piece of scrap pine 1x2 as a mallet. The round bullet nose and (long enough) shank seated backwards lends itself to self-centering using a smacker. This load isn't for long range shooting or anything. It's going less than 400 fps so I guess it is very tolerant of half-a$$ery Here's a better view of my "loading press". (Using it in this pic for .308 buckshot rounds, also over 3gr of Unique.) Oh yeah, I got my Grashorn elk stags. I am in luuuvvvv with this marble launcher... I figured that I might get better groove grabbing spin from the softer alloy at the very slow speeds and I did. The first 3 rounds I fired standing SA at 10y should be good enough to put a fright in some bunnies.
