I believe in penetration tests that Kelye's bullets were outperforming just about everything out there.

cholla, very nice looking bullets you cast there! Just a tick more velocity maybe & you would have some real hog medicine. I use the 180 gr Carbine bullet as well. Nicely done!

The owner of the African property is here in the states doing some shows, right now in New York, then later in Salt Lake in two weeks, hoping to talk to him then. The problem is I shot my bull 2 1/2 years ago & they have a huge operation in Africa & my fear is that my bull is hanging on someone else's wall & they are very happy. I had a friend stop by & look at this one & he said he's pretty sure the horns don't even match, meaning they are off of two different bulls. All I know is it isn't mine & right now I don't even want it. Fifty years ago I shot an Albino rock chuck, only one I've ever seen. We took it into town to a friends house & put it in their freezer because we were staying a few days & later I took it to my long time taxidermist friend & he sent it off to California with his other hides. They notified him that the hair had slipped & they had thrown it away! Yikees! It had pink eyes, pink feet, lips, the whole works, but I never got it, someone in California did through.

It's true that over the last 10 years or so, since I've been powder coating that I've been going softer & softer with my alloys & still getting good results. But you still have to maintain both accuracy & results. Without either one you're just kicking the can down the road. If it were me shooting those hogs with a 357 (wish it was) I would drop down to a 180 gr HP cast powder coated bullet & pick up some velocity & I think you would get better results. Your shot was a little bit high & in soft tissue so one shot isn't a very good test but you did get quite a bit of blood & a recovery. Trapr has killed a lot of hogs with many different calibers & probably has more imput here than I do. But as soon as I get my old model 357 back from Bobby Tyler I plan to do a lot more testing with my 180 gr HP mould. Mine is the Miha 357 Carbine style & I've mostly used it in the 357 Maximum on mule deer & antelope. Also there are times when you do need a GC, even with powder coating to maintain accuracy if you are really leaning on your loads for top end velocity. Sometimes not, it's best to test them at long range to really give them an honest test.

cranker, you did the right thing, glad you got it. And Tyrone doesn't need that box, I do. He's got enough of them to paper his house with.

Well its still in the works right now, one thing is for sure, I think, I won't ever see my horns again. But Werner, the owner in South Africa is in New York right now at a show & will be in Salt Lake next week & I'll go down & talk to him & his Salt Lake guy that takes care of bookings here in the west. I've met both before & have nothing but good to say about either of them. Not sure how this will turn out but I do think it was an honest shipping mistake by his hired help, just my thoughts for now. That's why I'm always saying it's never a good idea to cuss those guys from Utah..........

Rey, the taxidermist is 3 hours away in Utah & has a great reputation for his work. When I sent the 3 photo's down yesterday he called me back within 5 minutes & told me the horns in the photos wasn't the horns that he received & that the owner in Africa needed to make it right. I'm making phone calls today to a guy in Salt Lake that handles all the American hunts, I've already talked to him once & he will be getting in touch with the African owner. I'm hopeful that we can get this worked out without any problems.

After waiting 2 1/2 years we finally got the call to come & pick up our mounts from our last trip to Africa. To say we were excited would be a huge under statement, Yikes! We were in a big rush to get back because it was senior night for one of Larry's daughters so we quickly got our mounts in Utah & headed back to the safety of Idaho. When I saw both of our Kudu's I thought mine looked smaller than I remembered but we quickly loaded everything up, two Kudu, a Sable, two Nyala, Wildebeest, two Zebra, two Gemsbok, two Impala, my Cape Buffalo skull & several hides & headed north. Today, when I got my Kudu unloaded my heart sank. Here is some photo's of my Kudu when I shot it in 2021, it wasn't as long as some others but it was very heavy at the bases as you can see in the photo's. This is what I got back, I almost cried when I started looking it over, no way was this my Kudu. It was much smaller, the horns had a big hole in them & several cracks & they actually appeared to be from 2 different skulls after looking them over close. I had a friend come over & he said the same thing & he has seen a lot of Kudu. I sent the 3 photo's of my bull to the taxidermist & he said, no way was those the horns that came with your skull & hide, somebody in Africa has made a huge mistake. He said, no wonder we had such a hard time trying to fit the horns onto the skull, they just wouldn't fit. I reached out to the "middle man" here in the states that handles all the contacts between US clients & the owner in Africa & he happened to be in Hawaii but said he would get in touch with the property owner & get back to me. He also wanted me to send him the photo's of my Kudu with me in the photo & then of the mounted head when we picked it up. I will do that tomorrow. They have been very good to work with in the past, this has just been a bad mistake on someone's part in Africa when the packed & shipped & I'm very hopeful this will all work out well. My question will certainly be, how do we make this right, it's been 2 1/2 years, my horns are long gone! Thoughts??? Dick

Me & a friend went to the auction once & bought a black bally steer to butcher. We hauled him home & unloaded him in the corral & he promptly ran over to the fence & jumped it. Not only that but he kept on jumping fences all down along the ditch that ran through everyone's back yard for as far as we could see. Some people had gardens & he made short work of some of them, there were some mad people throwing things at that steer. After about a mile chase we ended up down near the highway & he was all worked up & ready for a fight, he was also about to cross the main road. I drove home real quick & got my OM 45 Ruger & some 260 gr Keith's & returned to the fight. He was now backed up against some pallets in a friends yard but was about to make a run for it as I pulled in the yard. Walking up close I planted a 260 gr Keith cast bullet into the little curl just above the eye balls & his belly hit the ground so hard it was like a 20 lb cow pie from a bull Garriffe. Max, a neighbor kid was standing there watching & I offered him $5 to find that bullet for me, he traced it down through the neck & somewhere into the body cavity but never could locate it. I would have gave up hours earlier but he wanted that $5 pretty bad so I gave it to him anyway, never did find it. That meat was so tough you couldn't cut the gravy with a chain saw, me & Danny gave it away to needy families. We had run that bugger halfway through town, jumping fences, tearing up gardens & getting threatened by grandma's older than Hillary Clinton. There's better ways to get a good piece of beef & also a better way to test heavy cast bullets, live & learn.
