I have a while before I could afford to start this project, so there's plenty of time to plan. I was considering if there was a way to do a BFR conversion as I thought that might be fun.

I am fascinated by this caliber and admittedly would love to own one. Is the Ruger Maximum frame the only platform it can be built on? Just curious as the are becoming more rare and more expensive.

I found some load data over at Accurate Powders that I opted for and loaded today. I did 50 Rds of Accurate No.9, 20.0 grains, and 50 Rds of Ramshot Enforcer, 22.3 grains. Gotta wait for my BFR to arrive to try them out. I appreciate all the input guys. In gonna try out some W296 loads next time afyer I get some more W296 (running low).

Congratulations! I have a BFR in .500 JRH with the same barrel length and I can assure you that you will not be disappointed! It's a great revolver, and despite big recoil, a hell of a lot of fun to shoot. Share some pics of the Huntington grip, I'm considering doing the same.

I think it's too long -- not on the front side, but on the back. What is the intended purpose of the load if you don't mind me asking? If big game is on the menu, I would opt for more meplat and less weight rather than such a heavy bullet. JMHO. Also, as a side note, the BFR's cylinder is quite a bit longer (BFR = 1.88 vs FA = 1.78) than the FA's allowing for a significantly longer bullet. I have no direct purpose for this load to be honest. Just trying different loafs, powders, bullets. Seeing what I like and what I don't. My favorite so far used a Cast Performance 400gr. WFNGC. But it looks like they discontinued that bullet. I figured this might be too heavy, so no worries there. I appreciate your input.

The following is from chronographed sessions many years ago. 425 WFNGC 26.0 grains 296 Federal 155 magnum primer in Hornady cases. These were shot in two FA Model 83 revolvers. One with 4 & 3/4 inch barrel and the second 6.0 inch. Velocity for the short barrel 1296 f/s and 1349 f/s for the 6.0 inch. Two different casters, Cast Performance and Leadheads. Both bullets gave the same velocities for all practical purposes. My personal opinion is this load is maximum in my revolvers. I tested some 26.3 grains 296 with other specifications the same in the 6.0 inch. Velocities increased over 30 f/s over the 26.0 grain loading. One last note the chronographing of the 4 & 3/4 inch gun was completed several years after the 6 inch. However the ammunition used was loaded at the time of the 6.0 inch testing. Hope this helps. . Is it okay to start at 25.0 grains?

Hey guys. Bought some reloading materials for my soon to arrive BFR in .475 LB. I bought some Cast Performance 425gr. bullets, 50 WFNGC AND 50 LFNGC. Boy looking to push 'em too hot. Would like between 1,200 FPS and 1,300 FPS. I have H110/W296, Lil' Gun, Accurate #9, and some IMR 4227. What do you guys recommend? Also, any other powder recommendations? Primer suggestions?

I talked to MRI last week and they indeed said they are reworking the hammer due to negative customer response. I'm impressed, most manufacturers try to sho e it down the consumers' throats. MRI is actually listening and adapting.

I have a .500 JRH BFR and it's a really great gun. The caliber is fantastic too. The power is plentiful and it's easy to find bullets. Brass can be made by cutting down .500 S&W Mag or buying Starline JRH brass from Buffalo Bore.
Since you mentioned it, I also had them fit a .50 AE cylinder to it. It's more for fun and it is just that. Fun!
I recently placed an order for a BFR in .475 Linebaugh. The folks at MRI said they are reworking the new hammer as customers have been very vocal about their disdain for it.
