I have to say that I am a part-time handgun hunter. I was a rifleman first and I still love looking at wild country with a good rifle in hand. Having no place of my own to hunt deer and hogs, I need to be ready to make good on the few opportunities I am offered. Some places I am invited to hunt are not set up for close up shooting, or are only late season accessible. If I need to get some meat in the freezer and it’s late season, I’ll use a rifle. I will still have a capable handgun ready to use if the chance arises. I much prefer to hunt with the handgun, but will use a rifle if that is the best tool for that situation.

I got mine put together a couple of weeks ago. Bought two boxes of factory ammo to get started with and shot a few rounds of it last Sunday. Accuracy was pretty good considering the wobbly rest I had available. I took it out to hunt afterwards but didn’t get to take any animals with it. I’ll use it next time I hunt, hopefully soon.
Recoil seemed a bit more than 5.56 or 300 Blk, but not near the level of AR10s I’ve tried in the past. I have some handloads to shoot and chronograph so the project is far from over. I’m looking forward to spending more time with the Ham’r.

Congrats, Bison is on my bucket list. Cool to see it done with a front-stuffer and Real Black!

I settled on 18.5g of 2400 in my 6.5” 480 with the Lee 400g RNFP(powder coated) in Starline brass. It chronographed at 1125fps average with SD of 10.9 and is sighted to have impact about 2” above the front sight at 50yds. I hope to hunt with it real soon!

I have a set of the Walker electronic muffs, they work allright for more open areas. I use plugs with the muffs when on a covered shooting range, but when hunting with rifles or handguns the muffs alone are sufficient. I wish I had started using hearing protection while hunting much earlier than I did.

Congrats, Joe. Good shooting there, and the recovered bullet is really cool. I hope to get a chance with my .480 SBH soon. I'm still working a few details out with it.
Thanks for sharing your story!

I looked at the seller's auctions on Ebay, and he gives some detail in the body of the item description. Interesting idea, I wonder how they came up with that one?
