I'm getting ready to buy a base gun for my first custom. I've currently got stainless guns and like them. For some reason I'm leaning towards a blue gun for this. I've got my sites set on a Linebaugh 500L.
Any of you blue guns regret not going with stainless?

Not a single regret going with blued. In fact, of all my revolvers, the only SS ones I own are to Freedom Arms guns.

I like and appreciate them both, but for me, there is nothing prettier than deeply bued gun. But stainless steel is so easy to keep up. Do this one in blue and the next one in stainless steel -- there will be a next one, I can assure you...... ;D

I had my hands on a Linebaugh 500L today and the bluing had that nice plumb tint to it. But the gun is not quite what I want and if I'm gonna drop the $$ for a custom I'd like to have it custom built.
Ya whit your probably right. I sure like the looks of the stainless Bowen Nimrods but I've gotta stick to my original plan I think. A blue Linebaugh to cut my teeth on. Boy, that guy on the other forum just wont quit will he?

Seeing you live in Alaska stainless would be my vote. I bet you are a hunter and not a collector so you will be carrying the custom in a holster in not so perfect weather. Would agree that blued looks better when new but after a few short years of carrying it I think you would be pleased with stainless. Mostly boils down to personal preference and since you are the one spending the money it is your call.
Most collectors want blued, most people who hunt in bad weather want stainless.

Yeah Snyd, that character, without an ounce of experience or credibility, has a problem with anything and everything Ruger. I don't know why I bother engaging him. He and his buddy have really stunk up that forum. Hey, it's your money, you should get what you want. Check your PMs, Snyd.

Like Lee mentioned. I too like the stainless for several reasons, but some of the blued guns seen here on Single actions are the best looking guns I've ever seen. If cost was not a factor for me, I would copy a few of the guns that Bushog has posted previously here

Groo here I have both and must agree with Lee Martin... If you are going to make a clasic custom then blue and CH are the way to go,BUT, If this is to be a Packing Pistol ,,, more protection is needed.. I have both.
