Guys, only (85) of these guns were ever made by Colt, making it a very rare post-war Colt single action. Decades later that number is now even smaller. All the collectors will love that it was done...makes theirs that much more valuable in un altered condition... What if it had DW King sights added? I'd even pay more for that! Shoot it like it's stolen! ;D

Jeff, I did read your review!!! I do want one!!! Ironically it was the guy in Colorado who made my RCBS 45-255 slugs that told me about it. Even though Im retired I feel like I hardly have the time in a day to read everything and feel like I live on the computer!!!! This will change once I convince my wife to relocate out of NY to the great West.I promise that! So I can see a new New Frontier in 5.5" in my sights with some nice bone grips like these two

GET OFF THE COMPUTER AND TELL YOUR WIFE YOU ARE BOTH MOVING. NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

YEs John, I feel like time is slipping faster and faster. My passions have always revovled around needing wilderness near me but Im not your normal NYer!! Dave Clements put that beautiful partridge style on it but thats the 22 dual cyclinder which theres alot of them around. And it worked. It had alos shot high with the original low baughman style . I just oprdered some small pin punches and will take the rear sight of the 45 colt NF and gridn down carefully underneath to gain about .015" lower on the whole sight. My 83 yr old Dad is alos patiently waiting to relocate too sinc ei bragged about the great salmon fishing !!

CVarcher, ...hate to tell you this but, moving that sight 0.015 in. isn't going to get you 4 in. at 25 yards. ...only about 6 to 7 tenths. To move the point of impact 4 in. you will need to move the sight about 0.1 in.
If the gun is one you would be willing to part with, maybe you should see just how serious some of the collectors are about preserving it. They MAY buy it for enough to replace it with one not so "collectable" and have money left over for some nice custom touches.
If you are set on keeping it though, I agree with the "shooter" crowd. Make it suit YOU.

Hmm barely an inch improvement-huh. Well then theres always the filing down alittle bit on the rear sight blade and deepen the notch accordingly too. That might get me another .025" at best.So total would be .040" drop at the rear. If that could drop me 2" I would gladly accept that. Then maybe adjust the load for the other 2" differance. Mr. Taffin mentioned about lubes-may I ask what types he likes? Oh doing so good in Long Island, NY? There are over 3 million people in 2 counties comprising most of Long ISland.Add the othe rpart of NYCs queens borough an you have probably 4 million on this Island. The few deer I took with the longbow is always on "questionable lands" ,We are running out of bunny grounds for hawking,I wouldnt eat any fish from our waters and unless your 7hours up in th Adirondack Mts your going to hear people yelling ,planes and cars ,jetskis ,landscaping motors blowing all day long, etc while paddling. Quality is everything!

Cvarcher, I would not worry so much about the math, just load up some stiff loads and shoot that thing.
Life goes by very quickly. If you want to move out West, do it. Some day, you will be lying in the nursing home, hoping they change your diaper today because they didn't yesterday, and you will be wishing you had moved when you could.
Some folks love the city life, and I am happy for them, but living near that many people would choke me to death. A man needs plenty of time in the woods. Watching the sun rise through the trees is much better than watching it rise above some crowded buildings. A man needs to live where he can shoot, hunt, fish, and drink from a stream without having to wonder about chemicals. A man needs room to move around, to live, and a solemn and peaceful place to die. I don't think people were ever meant to live all crowded together.

I take great comfort in the knowledge that I'll live the rest of my life, and then be buried, on this same hill.

Gee, Ive been preaching to all the wrong people here (NY)!! I feel the same way as you just written. My only sanity was the 1 week summer trips I would take my family camping up in the Adirondack Mts which is the closest thing to wilderness here in NY . But its 7 hours by car .I am going to put my foot down this spring for sure-make a trip and look around. Its that my wife is worried for our 2 young adult "kids" and leaving them behind. 21 and 28yrs old. Her parents are around the 80ish mark and I can see not far from now I could be lynched in to take care of them.(then I will just hang myself). This dream of moving out west was in me before I got married over 31 years ago!
