1) WHAT IS THE HEIGHTH OF YOUR SIGHT? I HAVE TWO 4-3/4" .45 2ND GEN NFs AND THEY BOTH MEASURE 1.255" FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL TO THE TOP OF THE SIGHT. IF YOURS IS SUCH I WOULD GUESS IT IS EITHER THE WAY YOU SEE THE SIGHTS AND/OR THE WAY YOU HOLD THE SIXGUN.
2) I PUT AN ELLIASON ON ONE OF MY 3RD GEN .44 SPECIALS. NO PROBLEM.
3) WHAT ARE YOU USING FOR BULLET ALLOY? A 292 GR #45-270 TELLS ME YOUR ALLOY IS WAY SOFT. MINE ARE 284 LUBED AND SIZED USING RELATIVELY SOFT WHEELWEIGHTS.
4) COLT HAS ANNOUNCED A 4-3/4" NF BUT THUS FAR HAS ONLY PRODUCED 7-1/2" .45s AND 5-1/2" .44s

Ok, I just measure my front sight at 1.257" . I just weighed out the Mt Baldy 45- 270SAA and they are 282 grain. Sorry about not knowing. I read too much but its never the right stuff!! BEsides-Ive always been a Johnny come lately!!LOL. Anyway Im not worried as I have a second Gen 1963 45 colt NF w/4 3/4" barrel. So I can wait . Im going to try and drop the loads and see if the groups drop as well.Thats a safer try.I might also be able to grind down the underbelly of the rear sight since I have about .015" space between the bottom of the rear sight and the frame where its cutout at the rear. Maybe that willbe enough. I was just wondering if the Elliason will give more lower adjustments than the factory old style Accro. Where can I buy Elliasons anyway?

Please do not ruin your very collectible Colt by modifying the front sight! Because it will, in fact, be ruined.

The collector value will surely be affected, which is meaningless to a shooter. Ruined? Hardly.

The collector value will surely be affected, which is meaningless to a shooter. Ruined? Hardly. YEP! GUNS ARE FOR SHOOTING NOT FOR COLLECTING. ITS ALREADY BEEN SHOT AND MODIFIED SLIGHTLY SO A NEW FRONT SIGHT IS NOT GOING TO "RUIN " IT. MOST OF MY SIXGUNS HAVE BEEN MODIFIED TO SUIT ME AND THEY WILL GO TO GRANDKIDS WHEN I AM GONE NOT SOME COLLECTOR.

Guys, only (85) of these guns were ever made by Colt, making it a very rare post-war Colt single action. Decades later that number is now even smaller.
Let's say for the sake of argument that there is a similar number of NIB or LNIB 1st Gen SAAs on this planet. If you somehow found one would you suddenly start installing a new front sight or dovetailing the frame for windage? Would you cut the barrel? After all, it is just a shooter right?
I enjoy shooting, but I can't help but think that some guns are simply in a different class than the run of the mill stuff that is out there by the thousands and thousands.

Well, I'm not gonna go out and pay collector prices for a collectible sixgun and THEN start modifying it. Because I don't like paying collector prices. Because it would be far less expensive to have a common used 3rd generation 7½" rebarrelled. Hell, make it a .357 and rechamber it as well. But if it's something I already have or procured at a modest price, nothing is sacred.

Mr. Taffin, how well are yours shooting? I heard that you have a pair of the new ones. I have another on order for Boge. He keeps wanting to take mine, but it ain't happening. The one that I have is really well-crafted, as are all Colt single actions built within the last few years, that I have handled. My new New Frontier is also very accurate. I am well-pleased!
