Because a big bore is lighter than a small bore on the same frame! Agreed 100%

Another reason why I kept shooting Big Bores……..it takes a bit of dedication
And as such…….it is a good group of people.
The shooters. This forum…….
John Linebaugh said he figured 1/3 of his guns never got shot. 1/3 were short while cringing
And then The 1/3 that SHOT them. Those are the ones he enjoyed.
Talking with him he would bring up a point and go to a book and flip through and find a page to explain his point.
Like him I’ve been without TV for 30 years. But a heck of a lot of reading.
This forum is enough of a reason to shoot Big Bores…….the folks here
But I ramble……..

I went to see John near 30 years ago. Shot his guns and worked with him. Got a 475 he built me a couple of weeks later……never looked back. All kidding aside. On this forum you will find more good info. Less BS. And more help than you will most anywhere else. Ask half the questions that are asked on here on FB……. Rants,BS and threats……… I really appreciate the corps here(on edit:does anyone except Marines and Ol Pharts like me use the word corps anymore?)

My old hands appreciate the milder stuff nowadays but if the bore is big enough lol you don’t need insane velocities either! Here in the mid-South the .44 Special and .45 Colt at sedate loadings will handle 99.99% of my real needs. Still enjoy some mild stuff in the .475 & .500 bores though again velocity isn’t needed when you can throw an ounce of lead with precision

Encouragement and reassurance for those that are thinking about or have jumped into the deep end of revolvers. Why we have and enjoy potentially abusive handguns that smaller or milder platforms can also perform. First before anyone else lists it, you do not have to have a reason. That being said I am kinda curious as to everyone’s reasoning. Also was there a reason the particular caliber? The 454 Casull because of seeing the all the articles on it in the 80’s and the same goes for the 500 Linebaugh and 44 mag just because I thought it was federal law to own one if you owned a revolver. No doubt all the reading I did prior to the 454 Casull became a household name, was an influence. Then the effects of impact on metal silhouettes of the larger heavier bullets made a definite impression. The 41 Remington mag began my appreciation for the .40's and above. My present favorites 45 Colts/454 Casulls, 480 Rugers/475 Linebaughs, 44Specials/44 Remington mags. I like them single or double actions. Probably specific cartridge favorites are the 45 Colt and 480 Ruger. I have not have a 41 mag in a very long time. But, the right revolver at the right time could change that. It will always be a favorite cartridge.
