Picked up a BFR 500 Linebaugh with Bisley Grip, liked it okay, really like the cartridge but the BFR is a bit bulky for all day carry in the back country, so I had David Clements convert my Super Blackhawk Bisley frame into a 500 Linebaugh with 4 5/8 barrel. Have since sold the BFR and my new back country carry weapon is the Blackhawk 500 Linebaugh. Playing around with loads all the time and have settled on an ACCURATE molds 450 gr. PB LFN sized to .512 or a Lee Minie 54 cal. dropping at 425 gr. resized with some considerable effort to .512, the most accurate bullet so far. Powders used, 2400, Blue Dot, H110, IMR 4227, Trail Boss and Alliant Steel. Looking to work up some loads with Red Dot and Clay Dot.

I received a text with a number needed to order 454 and 480 BSBH's before in catalog. I sat on the oppurtiny for a week or two and found myself watching Jurrassic Park on TV one night. Wheel were in motion the next day to get a 480. They sent me a 454..Doh ! A return and a 480 soon after. I know, I know, should have kept the 454 and bought a 480 too. Will be packing the 4 5/8" 480 this weekend up in the hills.

I just remembered that John Taffin summed it up quite well. I have his quote in my signature. Couldn’t have said it better.

I like them. No other reason needed or desired. I agree with this. If you have the money and the desire, why not ? As someone said above, you only have one life. That’s why I have two gun safes, I believe in diversity, especially in things that go bang !

Ive taken a rail car load of deer with the 44 mag. They run every single time that its a boiler room shot. I read on the marvels of the .475 Linebaugh being the hammer of Thor.
I purchased one and an appropriate mould. Damned if what I read didnt turn out to be true. It flat sits them down and I dont push on the velocity. Its actually more pleasant to shoot than a Nuclear 44. .500L is next.

I never knew I needed a reason. I like them so I buy them. If you like them, buy them too.

...That being said I am kinda curious as to everyone’s reasoning. Also was there a reason the particular caliber?.... Here's a good reason. Too much fun. Steel goes CLANG! instead of plink.... My 357 and 500L...

A little different here. I had back surgery for a ruptured disc a few years back and lost the use of two fingers on my right hand. The physical therapist said the feeling may come back in my fingers, but I had to work them to help the nerve healing. Sounded like a good excuse to get a BFR 454 Casull and shoot the hell out of it. Holding onto that gun was great therapy and six years later my hand is almost normal.

I like it.

That I agree with, and I read a good many of your posts on various forums about you “ getting to know “ the 500L. Have not said it before but thanks for posting on it and to everyone that fed my quest for info before I bough a 500L.

I like the number five is why! Life is more fun when you turn 5 and shooting is more fun when the caliber starts with a .500 (some .40 cals are great too). youtu.be/PEA9t9m7kA4?feature=shared

Because a big bore is lighter than a small bore on the same frame!
