Been looking at adding a SAA with a 4.75" barrel in .45 Colt to the stable...
Several were up for sale on GunBroker yesterday and all sold for in the $2500+ range...
Bid on one with an extra cylinder in ..45 ACP...went for over $3k...about $3200 delivered with all the CC, insurance and shipping fees..
That was a 1996...a 1994 just like it with no extra cylinder sold for $7K!!!!! Only difference..it had a set of factory ivory stocks...
...nutz.

MIGHT BE TIME TO MOVE MY 2 1st GEN 1920's COLT SAA's (A 32-20 & A 38-40), A FEW YEARS BACK THE SAA MARKET WAS FLAT.

Ever since CZ bought Colt the SAAs have gone up 30-50%. LNIB guns that could be bought a few years ago for $15-1800 now start at $2300..

It’s definitely a crazy time to be jumping into the Colt SAA pool. A year ago the “benchmark” price was 2k. Now $2500 seems to be it. I don’t think it’s going to go down anytime soon. I’ve never paid that much for one, but never thought I’d pay as much as I did for each one I have either. What I mean is, I bet that $2500 Colt won’t be able to be bought for that amount next year.
Sometimes you can get lucky. My “brother” Bart bid on a 38-40 and he stopped at $2300. That was two years ago. Last year he walked into a gunshop in KS and there sat a LNIB 38-40 on consignment for $1700. So sometimes patience pays off.
That price for the gun with factory ivories is beyond insane. That money would’ve bought a really good 1st Gen gun.

Maybe a new Uberti would take the edge off of the urge until you can get a Colt ? as a bonus , the Uberti will have proper size throats and a tall enough front sight to regulate normal weight bullets .

Another option is to find a Great Western and have Alan Harton go thru it for you . I went that route after owning several 3rd gen Colts .
The only other gun that I am aware of that is identical in size and feel to a first gen Colt is a Great Western , they are the same size . 2nd and third gen Colts feel different due the the gripfame being a slightly different shape than the first gen guns . When you have the guns next to each other it is pretty obvious .

I have a Uberti Cattleman with a 4.75" barrel in .41 Special made up by JRH and a pair of Colts just like it in .32-20...
This is just an investment piece that one can also shoot... Would like to find a nice clean but not perfect used one but almost everything I am seeing is LNIB...

Well...I was watching a bunch of 4.75" SAAs over the last couple of weeks and was still watching four more... Most were put out for a penny and all that have sold so far have brought a minimum of $2300... The ones with fixed starting bids in the mid-$2000s mostly just sat there. Those with starting bids in the mid-teens all got bids...except for one which started at $1800 with a BuyNow of $2500....and after two weeks no one had bid as of this morning. So before heading off to do my work I put in joke bid $1850... I say joke because I put a $2k bid in on basically the same gun a week ago and it sold for $2300.
Now this Seller had also put out the identical gun, made in 1997, 4.75", Unfired in the original box, but in nickel, at the same time and shortly there after someone hit the BuyNow....
Stopped for lunch and checked the auction...I was the only bidder and got it for $1800...so by loosing the auction for the $3k+ gun with dual cylinders I saved $1350...
...a good day.

Make damn good and sure it’s legit.
I’ve found two scam sellers on Gunbroker recently selling 4 3/4” 45 SAAs.

And, unless it had the optionl Colt firing pin and hammer, the Christy type firing pin is a turn-off to me. I believe in my time I've only seen two Great Westerns for sale. Bob Wright

I was in a local shop yesterday that had a Great Western or two for sale. They also had a Freedom arms 454 casuel with an extra cylinder and Leopold scope for sale. On consignment I think. Great Westerns and Freedom Arms guns are scarce around here so they caught my eye. They always have some neat stuff there. I have there card somewhere if interested. Local shop has a gen 1 .41 colt in the case, they also had a new Tom Threepersons Colt at one time.

Not too many years ago I wanted a Colt SA in 45 Colt, BAD. I bought a 3rd Generation and being a cast bullet shooter, upon receiving the revolver I measured the cylinder throats. They were all over the place with the largest being .456". I turned around and sold it and bought a different example. Got it in, same thing. Cylinder throats of this size take some special type cast bullets in order to have any hope of accuracy. Ultimately I bought a 4 3/4" Uberti Frisco in 45 Colt that turned out to be a dream gun and built as the Colt should've been built. Its cylinder throats were perfect all measuring .451" and it is one of the most accurate revolvers I've ever owned. Just a little food for thought.
