Apparently he collapsed and died in the shop on Sunday. I was lucky enough to own a couple of his 500s and a big 45. If he had charged me a nickel for every time I call him to ask questions he could have retired. We are diminished.

Wow, that was sudden. Wonder if it was a known condition. God Bless and God Speed.

Going to leave a Big Hole in a lot of people's hearts. A one-of-a-kind gun maker and friend. See ya at the Big Round Up Over Yonder! MM

A number of years ago John suffered a heart attack but pulled through and recovered. Unfortunately not the case this time.

I too saw this over on the Ruger forum. While I never met John, or even spoke with him,, the post by Bob Wright over there said volumes. I could not think of a better way to express things than with what Bob wrote.
RIP John.

Never got to meet John face to face, but I never spoke to him when I didn’t feel like I was talking to a friend. Rest In Peace my friend. Prayers going out to his family as well.

Wow, I am stunned. A giant in the world of revolvers gone, someone who literally reinvented the wheel bigger and badder.

Without a doubt he took single action revolvers to another level. I never met him but from what I've read the man was as classy as the guns he built.

Dang that is a tuff one for sure. Talked with him on the phone once but never had a chance to meet him, try his work or attend the big bore shoots. I am saddened by this news.
