Never did swing price for 1 of his guns but paid attention to his activities from ‘86 or so forward. When Ruger/Hornady came out with the .480- I consulted regarding possible chamber pressures etc on a heavy 430 gr. load I was developing that matched the spec’s OAL/case capacity for the .475 Linebaugh. Extremely helpful! RIP! JL

Hate to hear it, got to meet him in 1997 in Tulsa at the gunshow and he was such a nice guy. Finally got a .475 he built a few years back and it's a prized possession. Just really liked his style and the way he did his guns. Not overdone and fancy just damn good fit and finish. Called him many times over the years with questions and he always made time to talk. Will be really missed in this world that is for sure.

Obviously I did not know him, but his reputation proceeded him in the six-gun world. R. I. P. Mr. Linebaugh.

I met him in 2010 at his Linebaugh Seminar that year. I was able to spend a considerable amount of time with him those two days in Cody. He was very personable and friendly, just a regular guy. We discovered that we were only two months apart in age. I miss him.

Really sad to hear this news. I recently got into the big bore guns and though I couldn't justify the cost and time for a Linebaugh, it's something that I have on my wishlist. I've learned a lot about these legendary guys in the last year (Freedom Arms 454, etc.) And sucks to hear about his passing. RIP

So sad to hear of this, I talked to him only once, another smith that I was talking to about a barrel change on a Blackhawk because of a bulge told me to call him for a take-off barrel, he said sure, I have a bucketful what length & stainless or blue, I told him what I preferred he said to send me $50 and I will send it off, well I did & he did, I was so impressed that he took the time to help me, someone, who called him out of the blue. What a nice person, I asked him don't you want anything to ship, and he said no but I sent more to cover anyway as I was so happy to get what I wanted & from him.

Talked to John 4-5 times over the years via telephone, the guy always made me feel guilty, as we would talk for up to an hour, It was my day off and I always felt like I was keeping him from something!lol Last time we spoke was probably 3-4 months back, I was hoping he could give me his feedback on building a “hot rod” Uberti, based on Mike454’s “big” Colt Peacemaker, John had built years ago. John talked to me like he was part of the project and wanted to know particulars….., John was a class act and this news reminds me that I have to get the project back together. RIP Mr. Linebaugh, Steve

I'm pretty upset with myself for not knowing about this. Godspeed, John. You are missed.
