Never met the man, read a lot of his stuff early on in my single action journey and felt like the kind of guy that I would have liked to talk to over a cold adult beverage. May he rest in peace and prayers to his family.

Spent one of the most enjoyable evenings in my life at dinner with John at the Irma Hotel in Cody, back in 2013. We had a mini-gun show at our table, right there in the crowded dining area. We were passing handguns around the table and nobody batted an eye, except for a gentleman who walked over and asked, "John, you sucker someone else into buying you dinner again?". We visited John at his shop the next day and shot our S&W model 25's and a few of his personal guns at targets of opportunity on the slope across from his shop. A nicer visit you couldn't ask for. I am sore now about having put off a trip to one of his seminars for so long. I had actually hoped to make it this year. John kindly letting me hold his personal revolver for a photo... Rest in Peace John and I look forward to sending some lead downrange again on the other side. You will be missed. Mike

That is sad news. I never got the chance to meet or talk to him. I have read some of his writings though. What a shame. My prayers for his family.

Sorry to hear John has left us... He was a great guy to talk to, he put up with all my questions before I handed him my Ruger Bisley 45 Colt to convert to 5-shot .475 Linebaugh. Had to wait for the following seminar in OKC (2007) to take delivery - the most perfect revolver I own. I'm going to take it out of mothballs and shoot it this weekend to celebrate a true legend!

I met John in 2015 at his shop. He was a gracious host showing me guns that were treasures of his, including a #5 he had built. Ask if I wanted to shoot and he gathered up ammo and guns and we walked outside. I expected 25 or 50 yd targets. Nope. 200 yard gong and 400 yard rocks. He changed the shooting world. He was a pioneer of sorts. I’m glad I met him and I own a 500 of his.

Sad news. He just signed my 1986 and 1988 Guns and Ammo issues with his 475 and 500 articles. Also sent me a signed poster back in January. Think my 500 build was coming up in the next few months. Rest in peace bud.
