Met John Linebaugh at the welding shop of my late friend, Bill Mading, in Austin, Texas. Next day John with his Texas sidekick, knife maker Jerry Halfrich, we threw lead with a brass handle Vaquero .500 Linebaugh in New Braunfels. That was the start of a conversation which lasted until fairly recent. John’s mannered knowledge cannot be plumbed mathematically, it was his intuition that put it to art. His guns have a wholeness to them that takes you inside. No decorative deflection, a Linebaugh revolver takes you straight to the meat.
Interspersed as it was, I will miss the twine of our conversation. “Old school triggernometry,” John would say. Today shall see an aerial salute in homage to John Linebaugh. David Bradshaw

JOHN POINTED US 45 COLTeers IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, AND ALSO EDUCATED REVOLVERISTS TO JOHN "PONDORO" TAYLORS "TKO VALUE". A SAD DAY, CONDOLENCES TO HIS FAMILY, MAY HE RIP.

I got that news at 9 o’clock last night.
I was hoping it wasn’t true.
John Linebaugh always stopped whatever he was doing to talk to me. We have truly lost a gift to our community.

I bought a used 500 Linebaugh several years ago and called John shortly after I got it. When he returned my call he apologized profusely for taking a couple weeks to get back to me because he’d been out of state. Then we talked for an hour, some about my revolver, but mostly just general revolver stuff. It was like talking to an old friend. Rest in peace John.

Nobody except Ross did as much to influence the big bore world I don’t think. Thing is John was still around, still building guns and providing guidence to his users and buyers wether new or not even built by him. He recognized the smallness of this community and wanted everyone to be included. He brought people together as no one else could have.

Years ago when John had his heart attack I remember exactly where I was when I learned the news. I remember pulling over in the pump truck and calling John Gallagher with the news. John G. Said he had a few gun barrels he’d donate if I’d handle the sale and would forward the money they raised on to John in WY. That kind of kicked off an idea and I know others stepped up and donated monies, parts and even guns to help with John’s expenses. I sent a text to Dustin to see if the family could use any help at this time.

Terrible news, he was always willing to talk guns and he never made it seem like I was bothering him. I am very lucky to have three of his guns, and I wish I had a few more. He certainly changed the game, and will be sorely missed.

Sad to hear about John. We only chatted once and he was friendly and helpful.
