5-1/2 for belt carry & most shooting, general usage. Do have a fondness for a few specimens of the 7-1/2 variety for hunting and long range plinking

4 5/8-5 1/2” barrels just seem to balance perfectly for a belt gun Bisley.

Most of my bisleys are 5 1/2” but they are bracketed by a 41 3/4” USFA bisley target and the 2 Dogs 7 1/2” lightweight 32-20.

Hard to beat 5-1/2 to 6-1/2 inches.

My fave gun for walking the canals / swamps infested with gators and snakes whilst fishing is a 3 5/8" Bisley in .44 in a cross draw holster. I fish left handed and I can pull the gun out and shoot right handed and not miss a beat. Wearing it I can also sit in the truck and even with a seat belt on if needed I can grab that little bugger really fast should a two legged shark try to infest my car interior :-)

I prefer 6.0", as seen on the Bisley at the top of this forum. 5.5" is a close 2nd for me. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Like I have said before, often the favorite barrel length depends as much on the shooter's size influencing that perfect length.
I'm 6'2" tall, 240 pounds, with a 36" waist. Same 240 pounds but shorter and rounded would change everything. I probably wouldn't be comfortable with a 5-1/2" barrel riding my hip while on a tractor like I am now. It would poke into the seat and be pushed into my side.

I had Jack Huntington add his Bisley grip frame conversion to my 5.5” .45 Colt, and change the barrel to a 4.5” octagonal with his custom front sight base. It hold my point of aim much better due to the slightly heavier barrel.

OK, I'll be *that* guy... 10" - 12"...why? Because I like the looks (and why not?) Here's mine from Harton in 44 sp...Have JRH putting a Buntline NF 45 Colt barrel on a NMBH with one of Ronnie's brass Bisley gripframes...will get JRH's Bisley gripframe treatment as well.

That long barrel Harton build is great! I love my 5 1/2 Clements gun but my little John Powers vaquero is fun too!
