Carry ability and shoot-ability are being well covered. That leaves the somewhat trivial and highly personal appearance thing. To me, personally, A 3 3/4" Bisley looks funny, a 3 3/4" plow looks good. A 4 5/8" Bisley looks Ok, a 4 5/8" plow looks great. By the time you get to 5 1/2" they both look great. On a Single six frame the barrel has to get at least to 5 1/2" or a Bisley will look like a mistake. Like I said trivial, and others will see it differently.

I must not be the others you speak of because I see it exactly like you do ! I would add that the 3 3/4” looks great with a birdshead grip also.

Colt had it right at 4 3/4" I do really like the Freedom Arms 4-3/4. The 475 Linebaugh that I have with a 4-3/4" is top contender as my most favorite revolver.

I did really like the 3-1/2" bisley 480 Flying Zebra posted awhile back. Once I find the factory lengths for the collection, I will be sending the last one his way for similar treatment.

The 3.75" 45 Colt that have is a favorite hunting companion. Not saying that I cull my 4-5/8" 480's, which pretty much do all well for me. The 4-5/8" Bisley's were as short as I thought I would go. The 3.75" changed that after packing it around for a couple 3 weeks of moose seasons.

I sent my first Bisley to Jim Stroh to get chopped to 5 1/4". I've had 5 1/2, 6 and the full length factory barrels, and I think I liked 5 1/4 best. What that 1/4 difference makes, probably nothing, but I liked it.
Editing to add... I realize now I had a couple shorter as well.

To me 5&1/2" is the perfect length for a Bisley, I had 2 cut to that length a .45 Colt and a .41 Magnum and purchased a .44 Special. So all the Bisley's I own are that length.

I like the 5.5 inch though I have considered model 97 freedom arms 45 Colt in 6.5 inches.

The 7.5 inch barrel comes out too slow for more than 1 shot on a grizzly, as demonstrated on youtube by Alaskan guys having a grizzly cutout pulled on a sled by a snow mobile. Once the accelerating snow mobile gets traction, they mark a spot it has to pass before the shooter is allowed to draw. This is to simulate a grizzly charging quick at close range. The semiautomatic 10mm got off 4 shots, 2 or 3 hit vitals, and the SBH 7.5 inch 44 mag got off one shot, and the double action 44 mag got off 2 shots. Just thought you guys would want to know. If it makes you mad, I live in San Antonio TX and you can step off your front porch, point your favorite revolver high into the air and pointed at San Antonio , and empty a cylinder or two. But let me know before you do so I can take cover. Some of you may have some hi tech long range bullets that may be a threat!
