All I know for sure about the last post is that if Ruger, or any other firearms manufacturer sends a return label you should be good. It's their job to know the rules, and they have deals worked out with UPS and FedEx, and it's legal for them to ship back and forth between customers who are already legal owners of the firearm. As far as I know to this point, that has not changed yet.

Since it is not a transfer you can ship via USPS flat rate box. And, again, since it is not a transfer, your gunsmith can mail it right to your front door. My Post Office won't even send gun parts from a non FFL

By law, if you ship from an FFL it has to go to an FFL and you then must do paperwork again. If true, the FFLs around don't know it. While a gun I sent in for repair had to go back to the FFL i didn't have to do the paperwork to get it back. That was done more than once.

What we have seen happening in our lifetime is called INCREMENTALISM Also known as 'the death of 1,000 cuts.'

You, your FFL or his representative can do what ever they "interpret " as right in regards to receiving and shipping firearms. It's only after your gun is damaged, lost or stolen that you'll get to see how the rules not followed, are then enforced.

After seeing all the different interpretations, corporate shenanigans and government obfuscation I personally will pick what I feel is right and reasonable and go from there. As far as a potential damage or list item is concerned, I will lose about as much sleep over it as I do worrying about getting hit by a car when I cross a street. A possibility? - sure but nothing in life is guaranteed except or leaving if someday,

My Post Office won't even send gun parts from a non FFL My post office doesn't ask what's in the package and I don't tell them (except for the usual "anything hazardous" question). Mailing gun parts should not be a concern or any of their business.

When I had to send a gun to Reeder a few years ago for some modification I followed his instructions. It was boxed and sent USPS,marked "Precision Machine Tools" and insured for 2 grand. When everything was done it arrived back at my house. On the other side when I sent my 50 A.E. to Magnum Research to have a 500 JRH cylinder fit I HAD to send it Next Day FedEx. Stupid me,the only time I could get off was the Friday before Columbus Day. When I asked the chick behind the desk why I was paying $80 to send a package "next day" that would not arrive for 4 days all she could do was smile and take my money.

Turnbull has a statement on his website say that they will mail out shipping label and the carrier (I think ups) will pick it up from your home and it will be returned to your home.

I think Robb nailed it. I love the legal expertise though. And can you believe it’s free?
