tossing around chamberings for long cylinder BFR

kind of itching for another BFR one option would be a 6 shot 44 Magnum... otherwise I'm actually leaning towards a long cylinder in 444 Marlin... I originally wanted one in 375 Winchester... but I've sold all my 375 Winchester stuff... maybe 307. 375 JDJ, 450 Marlin ( already have a 45-70 ) so not too hot on the 450... or what say you guys... 444 Marlin, I already have all the stuff as I load for a custom 44 Hotshot Contender in shot, balls & mild 444, using 444 cases, any of those would work in the BFR, as well as hotter than the Contender would take... extra brass is in stock right now from Starline

What about 405 Win?
Tony from Grizzly machine told me about one he built. Had to open up the length of the frame a little bit to make a longer than 3" cylinder to fit factory ammo. Or just keep it at 3" and shoot handloads.
Nothing wrong with the 444.
The 375JDJ sounds great! I wonder if you would have any problems with cases expanding and tying up the cylinder rotation?
It seems like Lee has had good luck with his bottlenecked cartridges.

just an FYI... the 375 JDJ is a "factory" chambering from the custom shop... so it must be OK in the cylinder, as is the 375X444 ( assume those two are very similar, maybe shoulder angle???

They are the same, different name...

As far as I know, the earliest version of this cartridge was the 375 Waters Express in 1968. Since then, many have copied and accused each other of stealing their idea.

I'm sure there are small differences in neck length, shoulder angle, throat length and lead angle, etc.

But, the cartridge didn't come out until 1964. So, that likely puts Ken Waters' Version very early to the show...

Lee I'm a go big or go home kind of guy... but I'm pretty happy with my warm 500 JRH... thinking maybe something a little longer range, my buddy has a 460S&W, thought if I got the 444 or something of 375 variant, that would be a better long range shooter, & if he gives me too much grief for his being bigger, I'll just have to pull out the 500


BTW... I'm thinking 5.5" barrel, so not thinking anything too long range

I had no idea the 375jdj was a custom shop offering. That gets my mind wandering.
I've asked about having a 50-70 or 50-90 built, but they said no.

I think the rim is too big on those two. I'd love a 50-70 Gov't myself.

I do know the 50 Alaskan and 50-110 WCF can as the rim is 45-70 sized, more or less.

The new 500 Bushwacker is interesting. But, too much gun for me and I don't care for one source for cartridge cases.

Personally, I think the 6-Shot 30-30 WCF would be awesome. It would be heavy, but great with cast bullets.

I have to admit, the new 6-Shot 454 Casull is interesting. I need another 454 Casull like I need a hysterectomy.

A 357 Mag rechambered to 360 Dan Wesson is more likely for me...

Sounds like a neat idea to me! Wonder if it's possible to get the vent-rib from the 410 chambering to attach to it shopkahrfirearmsgroup.com/gun-parts/magnum-research-bfr-410-vent-rib-bfr-rib410.asp I've thought the BFR would make a good base for a paradox gun for a while. It can hold bigger cases, and there's simply no substitute for more volume of shot.

Factory 500 S&W BFR sitting in the display case here. Been sorely tempted but have resisted so far. Holding brass, bullets, and a die set makes it extra hard.

For me, the utility would be in a round that can be loaded with Spitzer bullets for longer range work. You've got short range horsepower covered, that's easy.

307, 125 grain ballistic tips, 10 inch barrel sounds like a useful rig.

I wonder if the 30-30 could be cut to an AI without too much trouble. Seems that would be a good option in a revolver as well.

This bullet www.hornady.com/bullets/handgun/38-cal-357-140-gr-ftx-357-mag#!/      should be pretty awesome out of a 350 Legend revolver!!!  Before you do any thinking don't believe the crap that you can't load .357 or .358 diamter bullets in the Legend.
