The 44 isn't the first thing I pick up. That said I've got Ruger Super Blackhawks, S&W 29s, and Thompson Center 10 inch bull barrels. There is even a Marlin lever gun out there somewhere. Favorite would have to be the one I grab most often. Today that would be my Performance Center 629.

Bought this 5 screw 4" gun for the Persinger carved ivory and had planned on selling the gun, but it is so darn nice I can't bring myself to get rid of it. You snaked my gun….

Lots of great guns in this thread. 44 mag is a great caliber.
My only 44 mag is a run of the mill NM SBH; it's blue, 7-1/2". I'm fairly fond of it.
A couple months ago I got to shoot a friend's 4" 629. I really like the feel of that one. Will keep my eye out for one.

Reconsidering my previous response. The internet is not the place to wimp out... so...
If I could only keep one of mine, it'd be the S&W 629 PC vcomp 5 inch. The 5" vcomp was a very limited run many years ago. I've not found another revolver that feels quite as good in my hand. Had it sent off for a trigger job even before I took it home from the gunshop. It just feels right and has accounted for a good number of critters over the years.
Next would probably be my S&W 69. It came with a trigger most would think was worked over. Handy size. Nice gun. If I were going on a hike where dangerous critters roamed, the 69 is probably the revolver I'd pack... to back up my rifle, shotgun, and 15 friends! ;-)
Next would probably be the Colt Anaconda I just bought from John. Obviously, it is accurate. It feels good in the hand. It looks good. And it was owned by John Taffin.
Finally, a Ruger Redhawk. It should be my favorite. It was my first big bore handgun. One of the first times shooting it, I managed to shoot a squirrel in the top of a hickory tree. Over the years, I made some pretty darn good shots with it on a number of critters invluding my longest handgun deer. Shots that prove luck sometimes is more important than skill. Trigger pull and accuracy is good. But... it just doesn't feel quite as good in my hand. More like a tool than an extension if that even makes sense. That is why it's fourth.

Well since this is the only .44 Mag that I have it will suffice as my favorite. The last .44 Mag I had was a Model 69 when they first came out. Sadly sold it when something else caught my eye. I have kind of neglected the .44 bore opting more for bracketing it with the .41 mag and .45 Colt. This one is to rectify that

My most accurate, most versatile, most FAVORITE! It puts everything I feed it into small little groups. 1997 629-4 Classic 6½"

This is a fun gun for walk-abouts BUT, it is mostly shot with deep seated 44spl. level stuff. Just a home-chopped sheriff with a blinged up alloy gripframe to keep it nimble. I think this one needs to be a Wells Thunderer grip frame. Yeah , I like my Mod.69 4" alot also but no pictures cuz it looks like all the rest of them.

Favorite is such a fickle word but, for today, Far from nimble but it does shoot well.

Unfortunately I sold my favorite DA .44 Magnum...a S&W Mountain Gun...had three..
Two 629-2 Mountain Revolvers with the matte finish and Uncle Mike's grips and a -5 with the MIM parts Hogue grips...
Favorite factory round was the Speer Gold Dot 200 grain Short Barrel Load... Their .44 Special bullet at 1080 fps...10.0 grains of W-231 duplicated the load... Still have a bunch of bullets and hope to one day find another...

Put the lock replacement plug in 4 years ago from Original Precision. I also added a taller front sight as this was an early model and it shot high with everything. This gun just shoots and I think a large part of it is: it fits my hand and the recoil impulse is different than with an N frame. My SECOND FAVORITE 44 IS: I liked my 4.2" so well I tried the 2.75" and now I have a dilemma, which goes hiking and which stays home? I have to say after 57 years of shooting S&W of numerous shapes and calibers I like the L Frames the best. My grail gun is a L Frame 357 Mountain gun. I'll find one someday. Nice guns. The weight of the SWs can make shooting rough for me with standard magnum loads, not that I would need anything heavier where I live. For giggles I had a custom build cutting a A Ruger Redhawk down to 3.5 inches. I prefer your 4.2 inch for hiking, points better for me. While I don’t own them I fired both models a few times.
